I agree with Damon. The Etek is very prone to meltdowns under the
typical loads an average 400-500 lb bike can generate. A local member
down here in FL, Jeff Patterson, that has a full size electric custom
cruiser (pictures are in the photo album and still on the front page of
EM.net) and has been running a 6.7 ADC. The bike is right about 600 lbs
without rider. Even after a couple of sprockets swaps, the duty cycle of
the motor was wrong and as a result drew too many amps for too long. The
motor would get extremely hot after 10-15 minutes of riding. The motor
was drawing around 130-140 amps continuously at 40 MPH.
Jim Husted built a custom 7.5" motor with 8 brushes to handle the
application. A new motor is being fabricated and the motor will be
tested soon. The bigger motor should be able to handle the load.
If you have a super lightweight bike, the Etek would be a good fit.
However, I personally feel that the series wound motor like the 6.7" is
a much better motor for the EM.If you have a heavier bike, a larger
motor like the 7.5" would be great.

Well, my advice is don't buy one at all. They seem nice until they
melt down. I would contact Jim Husted and get a nice ADC 6.7 inch
motor that can handle the job. Some have gotten by with Eteks, but
many have also burned them up. I bought my Alltrax from

Subject: [ElectricMotorcycles] Advice on places to order Etek
motor from
Hi everyone,
I am ready to start buying the parts for my motorcycle but I
was wondering where the cheapest place to buy and Etek motor and
Alltrax AXE7245 controller are? does anyone have any favorite
sites that they trust for such parts? And what is the ballpark
price I should be able to get an Etek for so that I know I am not
over spending.
Thanks for the help,
Eric
