My fellow DEVC member John Bidwell from Fort Collins Colorado has converted
a 2004 Kawasaki 125 motocross bike to be very similar to your project goals.
He calls it El Moto. His goal is to take it to a sort of super moto type
configuration.

He uses small light weight batteries, a custom lower frame cradle and an
eTek. I (187#s) rode this vehicle for several hard charging laps around the
parking lot. The motor was warm but not hot. I can tell you first hand that
the
performance was thrilling in part because John uses a large (72t) custom rear
sprocket to get the gear ratio right.

I will tell you that I now have much less concern about burning up an eTek
IN A VERY LIGHT WEIGHT APPLICATION with a gear ratio that provides say 45MPH
top speed in a motocross chassis. Keep in mind that John's effort weighed in
the neighborhood of 230#s with small batteries and without rider. If you can
reach your target goals without adding too much battery weight a small swing
arm mounted motor may work well for a modest weight rider.
