Opener is neither a virus nor a worm. It is a script that must be
manually executed. (It could also be executed by other malicious
software.) The anti-virus companies tried to scare the public,
misrepresented the nature of Opener, and greatly exaggerated the
dangers
of it. Those companies were dishonest and have lost many potential
customers because of it.
You are definitely right about this and I'd like to apologize for
misleading some of the reads.
I guess I used the term "virus" just like the media uses the term
"hacker".
Because it's a term understood by the general public, even if used
improperly.
Although the point remains the same, as mentioned earlier any
application launched by the
user can bring down the daemon.
