The mechanical connection I'm referring to is the connection from the 2/00
buss cable and the #6 or #8 wire taps. The description I understood, was to
"tin" the buss cable and "tin" the tap wire and stick them together with
solder.
I would feel better with the # 6 or #8 wrapped around the 2/00 buss cable
several times and soldered or some type of approved mechanical clamp on
connector and anti-ox grease. Norm has an electrical back ground and untold
experience in ships and electricity and I consider him an authority so I don't
question his method, but from my experience, a solder connection without a wrap
 or
mechanical connection is possibly a problem, especially in high current
conditions or environments with vibrations or movement.
