A while back, in the Eastern Med, people used to wait to the end of the time
limit,head out to international waters - 3 or 12 miles - then call a mayday and
go back to 'fix' the problems... this was an 'acceptable' arrangment..

check out Malta, and Gibralter to see if they are Schengen. The US Dept of
State has a good web site section on Schengen, and I need to review that too.
