Yeah, it sounds rather romantic to envision tens of thousands or even
hundreds of thousands of dollars/euros to the project's disposal, but it's
quite the opposite actually. Unless we have an immediate objective for
such money, we'd be in a very difficult spot to know how to distribute it.
Finding developers like Harry is a good start, but putting more and more
money at a single developer won't make the code generate any faster, and
managing these types of campaigns can send us to the moon and back.
(figuratively speaking... let me explain).
For example... Musopen, started with an $11,000 USD budget, but instead
raised $68,000

(2,288
donaters). Aaron Dunn -- the owner of Musopen -- decided to take the FOSS
approach at Chopin scores by making them free, but in a very high quality
and modern format. That was 4 years ago. Good, bad or indifferent, the
money he raised was enough to send him around the world looking for the
best of the best.... He sent this email to me last month:

So Aaron Dunn has spent the last 4 years of his life managing a Kickstarter
he created with an initial $11,000 budget. IIRC, Vesa's estimation for
funding LMMS was $8,000. Unless we have an equivalent to Aaron Dunn in our
community -- capable of dedicating an abundance of time to this -- I feel
very strongly that we have to be careful how much money we accept.
As far as this statement:
we already have a donate button on the homepage and an account where the
> money goes, right?
Yes, it currently goes to donati...@lmms.io (currently this redirects to my
personal paypal account which was decided by Lukas and Toby).
