Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.
Paul will have the weather forecast of course and I’ll have the rest of the
day’s news.

On tonight’s programme, Look North has discovered that there aren’t any NHS
dentists taking on patients in Lincolnshire. That will mean, I’m sure, that so
many of you will be struggling to find a dentist, or paying to go private or
simply putting your name on the long waiting lists for a dentist. I’ll have
more on that story tonight at half past six. If you want to email me throughout
the day with your thoughts on that one, then I’d love to hear your comments. Of
course you can email me at the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

And my special guest tonight is the incredible singer Gene Pitney. He has a
huge following of fans in the UK and will be visiting Hull shortly. I hope you
can join me then.

Sofa Tour

Thanks very much indeed to everyone, who came along to Princes’ Quay today.
Paul and I had great fun there. If you came along, then thank you and it was
great to meet you. Listen out for the next date and location on the Sofa Tour
and I’ll put it in the Levy Letter as soon as I know when it will be!

Love At First Sight

Yesterday, I was talking about love at first sight after reading about it in
the paper. Well, there’s a note here from Sue Smith, she says, “The first time
I saw Stuart, I was totally bowled over. Not just by his looks, but by his
total ambiance. We became engaged seven weeks after we first met and married
eight and half months later. We’ve been married for twenty-three years this
October. There have been problems, like a lot of couples experience, but I
meant my vows on my wedding day and hope we will be together until death do us
part!” Sue – lovely email there, believing in love at first sight.

And there’s a note here, this one comes from Linda and she works at the
Beverley High School. She says, “In regard to your diet – I saw you on the
television tonight with Fat Barry from Eastenders and he made you look like a
racing whippet! A proper Yorkshire thoroughbred, lean of limb and all muscle
and no fat! My only comment to you is keep eating the beetroot!!” So there you
are, I think that is a Gillian McKeith fan there, but thank you very much
indeed for that one.

And I see that eating oily fish may help to prevent the spread of prostate
cancer to other parts of the body according to British scientists. Researchers
have found that Omega 3 Fatty acids are present in salmon, mackerel, sardines
and fresh tuna and could stop tumour cells invading other areas. The findings
may also lead to new drugs that stop other cancers, like breast cancer
spreading to other parts of the body. So that’s good news there on the research
front and that was in the paper yesterday.

Fear

What are your phobias? What do you least like? Well, what about this story.
There’s one thing that makes Louise Arnold go weak at the knees and that’s the
sight of a plate of peas! Almost rhymes doesn’t it? She’s so scared of them,
that she can’t bear to be in the same room. Louise can’t watch TV adverts about
them and is forced to make detours in supermarkets to avoid the aisles where
they are sold. The affliction even prevents her from going into her local pub
in Cheltenham, because the restaurant serves peas. It all started after her
daughter, Chloe, was born. “When I think about peas and talk about them, it
makes my throat constrict and if I see any, then it makes me very anxious!” So
there you are. Can you top that story? Not a local girl, but if she was, then
we would try and get her on the programme I’m sure. But she’s from Cheltenham
and has an absolute phobia of peas!

Deal Or No Deal

Six months ago, Noel Edmonds wasn’t even working in television. He’d been out
of television for quite a few years. Now he’s back as the highest paid
presenter and in just six months has taken the programme, Deal Or No Deal, a
brand new programme, which nobody had seen before, to the huge monster hit it
is now, which is on six nights a week. Deal Or No Deal has twenty-two
contestants, who compete for a top prize of £250,000! But it’s a great success
story and the actual format of the programme, most people seem to think is
riveting. I’m not a great game show lover, I have to say and I’ve only seen
part of one episode, but I know from talking to people that many people, who
like watching Look North, also like watching Deal Or No Deal!

Ipods

Now if you feel that there are never enough hours in the day, then you are not
alone. It seems that we have become a nation of ultra busy Britons juggling
careers and families, paying for childcare to ease the burden, snatching meals,
eating on the go and listening to music in transit. Things that we used to buy
– well, we used to buy personal CD players, dining room tables, a grass trimmer
or strimmer, dishcloths, chocolate coated biscuits. Those are apparently out
now and the in items in 2006 – a bottle of champagne, three litre wine box,
frozen chicken breasts, nanny fees are up there as number five, after-school
club charges, personal MP3 players or Ipods, flat panel TVs and digital
camcorders. Water sports equipment is also in there and also a home office
desk. How things have changed? Things that are out – contact lens solution as
we all have one day disposables these days and muesli is out now as well. I
don’t know why that’s come about. And also slippers as well. We’!
re not buying adult slippers anymore as we’re not wearing them anymore. What
do we wear now then, if we don’t wear slippers? Anyway, that’s some of our
buying habits now.

Drop Me A Line

Don’t forget if you want to send me a picture that you think I should see, or
if there is a story that you’d like us to cover or a problem for Leave it to
Levy, or if you just want to drop me a line about some of the things that are
in the Levy Letter today, then it’s [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that's it from me for today. I hope you can join me tonight on BBC1 at
6.30pm. Have a lovely day today. It looks like the weather might be quite nice
today, so enjoy it if you’re out and about.

Take care

Peter
