Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm. I
was talking last night to Paddy McGuinness on the programme ahead of his gig
last night in Skegness. If you went, then I hope you enjoyed it.

Tonight on the programme, I’ll be looking at the controversial plans to install
cameras in a Hull crematorium so that relatives or friends of the deceased can
watch the service on the Internet. I’m sure you’ll have a view on that one.
Tune in later to find out more on that.

I’ll also have an update on the problems facing Karoo customers in Hull. Many
of you have been emailing in, letting us know of all the problems you’re having
with your Internet provider, so I’ll be getting the latest on that for you.

My special guest tonight is Ann Widdecombe. She’s coming to the area to talk to
a WI group in Cleethorpes and of course, you’ll be aware that we’ve just had
the Oscars. Well, school children in East Yorkshire have just won a similar
accolade. They won an award from the UK Film Council for their animated film.
Seeing the amazing success of the Wallace and Grommit films at this year’s
Oscars, do we, perhaps, have some future Nick Parks in our region? So join me
tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.

Thanks for all the emails on a variety of subjects. Keep them coming in. If you
want to write to me, then don’t forget they come direct in to me at [EMAIL
PROTECTED] I’ve had loads of emails on the subject of water saving solutions
for the toilet – put a brick in the cistern of course and so it goes on. Quite
a lot of people are going on about the benefits of an earth closet. In other
words, using non-water based methods for waste disposal! This one from
Katherine says, “A hippo bag simply doesn’t go far enough. I would use an earth
closet without any hesitations tomorrow and enjoy a bumper harvest of fruit and
veg for the months and years that follow!” Quite a lot of people were agreeing
with Katherine on that one. And a couple of people were suggesting that we hear
more from Adam Hart-Davis, who describes earth closets in more detail. By the
way, hopefully, in the not too distant future, we’ll be talking to Adam
Hart-Davis on the programme, because he is coming to Hull!
  next week.

Competition

Thanks for the entries so far. Keep them coming in. If you would like to enter
our exclusive Levy Letter competition for tickets to go and see Curtis Stigers,
then name one of the two hosts of the television programme, Just The Two Of Us,
which has been on BBC1 over the past few weeks. Name one of the two hosts from
Just The Two Of Us, if you’d like to get your hands on some tickets to go and
see Curtis Stigers in Skegness. Only, of course, enter if you’re able to get to
Skegness.

Looking Good

I see that Posh Spice has issued her top tips for looking the absolute best
fashion-wise. Visualise your overall look – I always do that, whatever that
means! Shop the world – the best thing about picking up clothes from different
countries is that it helps put an individual stamp on your style. Well, that’s
fine, but if you’ve only got Leeds and Hull to choose from to shop, then it
does make it a little bit more difficult. She says that accessories are the
bare necessities. The right bag, shoes or sunglasses can transform the look of
an outfit and she tells us also to be brave and customise. She says, “I like
buying jumpers and cutting them up, because they’re so fitted. For me that’s a
look that just can’t go wrong.” Well, that’s it. Spend plenty of money on a
jumper or a cardigan and then cut it up! Anyway, some tips there from Victoria
Beckham, which I’m sure you’ll treat with great reverence.

Pictures

Don’t forget keep the pictures coming in and keep sending me the photographs
for the Big Screen on Look North. If you’ve got something that you think I’d
like to see, then just drop me a line and send them in. Then, look out for your
photograph on the Big Screen. Of course, look out for a picture tonight on the
programme, just before Paul’s weather forecast.

Keira

Now, she did very well at the Oscars of course and is the talk of Hollywood at
the moment. She is of course Keira Knightley. She’s the star of Pride and
Prejudice and as I mentioned on the programme last night, rumours are that
Keira might be coming to Grimsby to make a new film. If so, then it’s going to
be happening in June, so look out for Keira Knightley in Grimsby. It sounds a
little bit far fetched when you say it like that, but apparently, there is some
truth in the rumours. Of course, I’ll have more on that story on Look North.

Countdown

I don’t know if you read this, but it seems that since the death of Richard
Whiteley last year, Carol Vordeman has been saying more and more and been doing
more and more on Countdown, rather than just saying her usual vowel or
consonant. It seems the viewers don’t like it though. They think she should
just be there to pull out the letters and numbers and not say too much. She is
treading, apparently, on poor old Des’ toes! I don’t get to see it too much
these days as I’m always working on the programme, so I’d like to hear your
views on that one. Is she getting above herself and saying too much or do you
want to see more of Carol on Countdown. Your views on that, as usual,
gratefully received to the usual address.

Thanks to quite a few people, who got in touch to ask if they could have one of
the stars of the skating programme, ITV’s Dancing On Ice, on Look North. One of
the difficulties of doing that is, as nice as it would be, and I’m not knocking
it, but there is no local connection from our part of the world. The nearest
contestant of course, was the winner, Gaynor Faye. Gaynor is the daughter of
the playwright, Fay Mellor, as I mentioned yesterday. She lives in Leeds and is
the mother of two and is the star of the drama, Fat Friends. However, maybe in
the future, there will be a reason why we can get Gaynor or one of the other
skaters on the programme. And, I have read that Bonnie Langford is doing a tour
with a couple of other female comediennes and perhaps she will be playing in
our part of the world, so we might be able to get Bonnie on the programme.

Well, that’s all from me for the moment. Join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm for
tonight’s programme and in the meantime, do get in touch if you want to say
anything. Look out for your Levy Letter tomorrow round about the same time. If
you know of anyone, who’s not getting a Levy Letter and they would like one,
then get them to go to either one of the two addresses at the bottom of the
page, click on Levy Letter and follow the instructions through.

Take care

Peter
