Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at
6.30pm. I’ll have all the day’s news, including the results of the shortlist
surrounding the casinos to be built in our area. Tune in to find out if Hull
and Skegness are going to be the home for these new casinos. Local people say
it will be a huge boost to tourism and industry in the region. I’ll have more
on that later.

In Lincolnshire today, a knife amnesty has been launched. I’ll be speaking to
the Inspector in charge to find out how this is going and I’ll be asking if
anything has really changed since the tragic stabbing of the schoolboy Luke
Walmsley. Join me tonight for that one.

And in Beverley, I'll be looking into these new grooming sessions for men only.
It's just for today's modern men apparently. I’ll be finding out how men like
to be pampered!

With our new Home Grown series on the programme, we’ve been looking at locally
produced food and free range organic crops. Well in Boston, I'll be finding out
more about the school dinners, which are produced and packaged locally. I’ll be
finding out how these are going down with the local school children.

And I'll be speaking to the opera star, Lesley Garrett. She's coming to the
region shortly for some performances and I'll be speaking to her ahead of her
tour. So a busy show tonight, I hope you can join me then. And of course, Lisa
will be with us again for the weather forecast. Is the rain finished with and
are we back on track with the summer weather? Well, probably not, but Lisa will
be able to tell us more.

And tonight is a big and important night. We’re launching something really
special tonight. If you’ve got a computer and you’re interested in film from
the old days, all archive material, then we’ve got something special for you on
BBC One, straight after Look North. Paul has got a special half hour programme.
So whatever you normally do around that time, then make sure you can watch
this. Maybe you switch over and watch something else (heaven forbid!) or maybe
you go out and make a cup of tea or take the dog for a walk. Well, don’t do
that tonight, because we’ve got something special for you tonight. So that’s
from seven until seven-thirty. Do not miss that one. So cross an hour out of
your life tonight between six-thirty and seven-thirty for Look North and for
Paul’s programme all about archive footage. So there’s the advertisement for
that one!

Problems

Don’t forget if you’ve got a problem or an issue that you think we might be
able to tackle on Leave it to Levy, then drop me a line to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
And indeed email me about anything else as well.

Guests

Last night on the programme, we were talking to Bonnie Langford. I’ve had so
many emails asking for Bonnie to be on the programme. So there she was on the
programme last night after her huge success on ITV’s Dancing On Ice. And Bonnie
of course is on her way to Yorkshire later on in the year, but I’ll remind you
of that a little nearer the time. It was good to have her on the programme last
night. Don’t forget if there’s anyone else that you would particularly like to
see interviewed on the programme, then do get in touch. I’ll see what I can do
and see if we can get that set up.

Face Lifts

Women, who want to turn back the clock, but fear going under the surgeon’s
knife, have got an alternative. It’s called a face lift brace! The two and a
half thousand pound device is worn on the teeth and is claimed that it will
reduce lines, firm up jaw lines and plump up the lips, by training the teeth
into a different position. It’s said to boost the flow of blood and oxygen to
the muscles in the face and neck, which will trigger healing processes. It’s
also claimed to stretch the skin across the face and helps to smooth out
wrinkles and tackle sagging jowls!

Springwatch

Well, as I’m sure you know the BBC has a special campaign during the summer to
help look after wildlife and nature, called Springwatch. Well, it seems that
this is taking off. A building firm has stopped the dismantling of a crane on a
building site, because they want to protect some mistle thrush eggs in a nest
at the top of this crane structure. These soft-hearted builders were so
concerned at protecting these eggs that they don’t mind that it’s costing them
about £3000 to keep the crane in place. Leaving the crane in place is likely to
disrupt and slow down other work, which could add to that growing cost!

And office workers, who smoke, have been given an extra incentive to give up
the habit recently, when a Great Tit took up residence in an outdoor ashtray.
The bird, nicknamed Splutter for some reason, laid her eggs in her new home
which hatched this week. And despite being such a tiny bird, she certainly
makes her presence known if smokers come too near her little home! So it looks
like lots of people are looking out for nature and looking after birds in our
area. Let me know if you’ve got any nests in unusual places in your home!

Sport Relief

Last night, if you saw the programme, you would have seen me running (well,
crawling!) across the Humber Bridge. We were launching Sport Relief in our part
of the world. If you would like to take part on that Saturday in the summer and
run a mile, then join me in Queen’s Gardens. If you go to the Sport Relief
website and find out more details on that one and see if you can get yourself
set up as one of the runners of the Sport Relief Mile. If you do, then you’ll
end up with a pair of red socks, one before and one after you’ve run. So do
support Sport Relief. The Sport Relief campaign has been a huge success and the
last time they did it, a lot of money was raised and a lot of money was spent
on projects in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. So when you see the sign saying
Support Sport Relief, then run if you can. It’s only a mile and all the details
are on the website – www.bbc.co.uk/sportrelief.

Well that’s all from me for today. I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on
BBC One at 6.30pm as usual. Take care.

Bye for now,

Peter
