Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at
6.30pm. I’ll have all the day’s news and Paul will have the forecast.

Also tonight, I’ll be finding out why women in North Lincolnshire have been
told they have to wait a year for IVF treatment. We’ll be revealing the Primary
Care Trust that is scrapping free IVF treatment for at least the next coming
year. I’m sure that will affect a great many couples in our region. I’ll have
more on that later.

On Look North this evening, the enigmatic Jamie Oliver will be in our region
again. He’ll be on the programme talking about the standard of school dinners
in our local schools. And as I’m sure you’re aware, it's been the wettest May
for over 20 years. I’ll be finding out what impact this is having on local
farmers.

And it’s normally Hull, who gets voted the worst place to live or the fattest
place in the country as it normally gets ranked quite high in these negative
polls. But not this time! Can you believe it? Lincolnshire has been voted one
of the ugliest counties in the country! Yellow bellies are up in arms over this
one! I’ll have more on this and of course, the rest of the day’s news tonight
on Look North at half past six. I hope you can join me then.

Emails

Thanks for all the emails on a variety of subjects. I was talking about older
mums the other day. There’s a note here from Doris. “I would just like to say
something regarding babies being born to older mothers. I had twin boys, who
were fifteen years old when I had another baby boy. Being forty-one years old,
I was not too pleased at the time, but I think forty plus is not a bad time to
have children. Mature parents cope with having a new baby and do not panic over
small problems like young mothers do. One of the advantages of being older and
having friends the same age is that you are never short of help and also baby
sitters!” So there you are on the subject of older mums. If you’ve got a
comment on anything, then email me. And also if you’ve got a problem for the
Leave it to Levy slot, then get in touch – [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Calling All Stars

Well, I mentioned this earlier in the week, but thought I should remind you
that we’re looking for some young talent! BBC Radio Humberside’s Westenders
programme on Sunday, which features all the hit songs and gossip from the world
of West End Theatre, are putting on a musical! They’ve chosen to do the
musical, Carrots, which is the story of Dr Barnardo and the children’s charity
and they want some young talent to star in the show. So if you’re in Year Six
in your final year of Junior school and you fancy being in a musical at the
Hull New Theatre, then get in touch. All you have to do, if you want a chance
to be on stage and help raise money for Children In Need, is to call our BBC
reception in Hull on 01482 314499. Ring between 9am and 7pm weekdays for
details of how to audition for the show. And of course break a leg!

Becks

I’m sure you probably watched David Beckham’s party the other night on the
telly (I lost interest after a while watching that!) or you will at least have
seen pictures from the event. But this business of writing books and
autobiographies is quite good at raising your profile and not to mention your
bank balance. I was mentioning the other day about Charlotte Church, who’s
writing her autobiography at the age of nineteen or whatever she is. David
Beckham has written the third of his books. The England football Captain’s My
Side was the biggest selling autobiography of 2004, but there is another one
called, Making it Real! And that’s coming out in September. He’s receiving a
million pounds for the third book of David Beckham’s autobiography! So there
you are. If you want a way to make some money, then writing books is obviously
the answer! I’ll have to speak to Paul about that one.

Weather

As I said a few minutes ago, a detailed weather forecast will be coming from
Paul tonight at half past six. But it’s the news that Britons have been waiting
for, according to my newspaper today anyway, that summer is on its way. After
the wettest May for years and years, with a bit of a wash out for events like
the Chelsea Flower Show, it says get ready for a flaming June! The outlook for
the whole of the month is good with temperatures staying high across the
country and far exceeding the average for the month in the south. The forecast
will be welcomed by sun lovers after a wash out May that saw many areas
battered by torrential rain. Now a large area of high pressure is poised to
move over the southern part of the country later this week and will spread
northwards say the forecasters. Wind will sweep in from the west and
temperatures could rise to 26Celsius, says this paper. Of course the detailed
forecast will be coming up tonight. This is just a little something to chee!
r us up this afternoon, but the detailed forecast will be coming from Paul
tonight at half past six.

X Factor

Now I’ve only seen one episode of this, excruciating as it was. This is the
celebrity X Factor or whatever they’re calling it. It’s a talent show basically
for celebrities and the money is going to charity of course, which is the good
thing about it. Apparently, the first night we had Paul Daniels and Debbie
McGee in action and I missed that. They got voted off on the first night. Were
they that bad? So I’m sorry that I missed that one, but I was told by my
friends at work that Debbie McGee was gutted and cried a bit and Paul Daniels
couldn’t care less. Although, the one person I have seen sing the other night
was that Rebecca Loos and that ginger bloke. His name escapes me at the moment
and that really was excruciatingly bad. I wonder if they’re still in it. I
didn’t see it last night either, but that’s celebrity X Factor on ITV. The only
good thing is that the money is going to charity.

Anyway, that’s it from me for today. Join me tonight on BBC One at half past
six for Thursday’s Look North as ever. If you want to drop me a line for
tomorrow’s Levy Letter, then it’s the same address as usual. And if you’ve got
a problem that you think we could tackle for you on the programme, then it’s
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Take care, bye

Peter
