Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.
I’ll have all the day’s news and Paul will have the weather forecast. We’ve
been told that the weather is going to be really good at the weekend, nice and
warm, so thank goodness for that. About time!

Tonight on the programme, I'll be speaking to the leading local MP, David
Davis, over the future of 2000 jobs in jeopardy at the BAE factory in Brough.
There are many worried families in our region. I’ll have more on that later.

And just two days after an inquest into the death of a young mother after a
stomach stapling operation, I'll be speaking to a Spalding woman on why she
went ahead with this controversial operation. So many of you had a view on this
one. I hope you can join me later to hear her story.

I'll have a special preview of Hull KR's challenge cup quarter final and I'll
be speaking to the man behind it all.

Last night on the programme, a group of school children in our area were
showing us how to make space for nature in your garden at home or at school.
Tonight we'll be showing you how you can have your own personal nature reserve
in your back garden. And I'll be speaking to Emmerdale heart throb, Ben
Freeman, on why he's coming to the region for a charity football event. So a
busy programme tonight, I hope you can join me then.

Emails

Thanks very much for all the emails on a variety of subjects and also thanks
for sending in all your pictures as well. There was a survey yesterday,
(actually it was a really barmy survey really) that said that Lincolnshire was
one of the ugliest places in the UK. It was all to do with gardens and I’ve
never heard so much rubbish really. Anyway, it’s prompted a lot of emails from
people saying that they didn’t believe it either. They were also sending in
lots of photos as well of beautiful scenes across Lincolnshire. Of course, we
all know how beautiful our region is and we were talking on the programme about
it and I was talking to the celebrity gardener, Diarmuid Gavin. This prompted a
little note here from Lois –“Have those people, who say that Lincolnshire is
the ugliest place in Lincolnshire, not been to the Lincolnshire Wolds or not
even to places like Gibraltar Point, which is lovely? Shame on them!” And that
was just one of several emails on our region.

Also, I’ve had quite a few emails on the subject of celebrity X Factor, which I
mentioned yesterday in the Levy Letter. “Haven’t you seen it yet? And heard
your favourite lady?” says this email from a reader of the Levy Letter.
“Gillian McKeith singing? Caterwauling tomcats and forks scraped across tin
plates springs to mind!” Lois thank you very much indeed for that. I did see
Gillian sing the other night. The only thing I did miss this week was Paul
Daniels and Debbie McGee, but from all accounts that was probably a good thing
I did miss it.

This email comes from all the way from the United States of America! It just
goes to show that the Levy Letter goes all over the place. This one says, “On
the subject of men crying, I think it’s very healthy for us all and for a man
and woman to have a good cry every once in a while to release any pent up
emotions. Imagine if we kept it all inside! We would be ill from all that
emotion. It needs a release. So go on you men. Us women actually think you’re
more wonderful for having that cry. Though not everyday please!” Thanks very
much indeed. That comes from Cate, who likes to see a man cry…occasionally! So,
as I say, thanks for all the emails on a variety of subjects. Keep them coming
in and of course, we’ll have some more next week.

Levy Letter

Over the weekend, if you’re chatting to anyone you know, who’s not signed up to
the Levy Letter and would like one, then all you’ve got to do is to go to
either one of the two web site addresses at the bottom of the page, click on
Levy Letter, follow the instructions through and they’ll get their first and
daily free email from me on Monday.

Living To Reach One Hundred

Well, they read like the ingredients for a summer holiday for a carefree
teenager, but a touch of sunburn, lashings of laughter, the occasional
rollercoaster ride – they are the three things that are in the recipe,
according to new scientists, for living to one hundred and having a good life!
Suddenly, having a sun tan and being sun burnt is ok! It used to be so bad
didn’t it? And now, it’s being mentioned in a positive way all the time. Facing
the day with a smile and the occasional thrill, like going on a rollercoaster,
all helps us live longer! Well, I’m quite happy with the laughter, and I’m
quite happy with a sun tan, but rollercoasters I can go without!

Guests

I was saying earlier in the week, if there is a guest that you’d like to see on
the programme, then get in touch. Obviously as far as having a guest on Look
North is concerned, then we’ll need a good reason why - either, because they’re
from the area, or if they’re coming to the area. Like last night, we were
talking to Jamie Oliver, because he was here in Lincolnshire. We’ve had a lot
of emails this week all asking for Noel Edmonds to be on the programme. To the
best of my knowledge, there is no link with Noel Edmonds and our part of the
country. But when there is, or if there is, then of course, we’ll try and get
him on the programme. And some months ago now, we were talking about Janet
Street-Porter when she was in the jungle. Well, there’s a new building in Hull.
We featured it on Look North earlier on in the week and it’s one of these
eco-friendly buildings and it’s called the Arc. You might have seen it on the
A63. It’s got these little windmills on the top and it’s ju!
st been announced that Janet Street-Porter, although she got so much stick
when she was in the jungle, is coming to Hull in June to open the new Arc
building. So of course, we’ll try and get her on the programme for a chat.

Well, that's it from me for today. Thanks very much indeed for reading the Levy
Letter. Whatever you’re up to this weekend, then have a very good time. Just a
reminder that there is a special event in Queen Victoria Square tomorrow from
10am – 4pm, celebrating Springwatch. We’ve had some wonderful films this week
on the programme from our reporter, Jane Birch and also, I’ve enjoyed watching,
which surprised me really, because it’s not really my cup of tea, but I’ve
enjoyed watching a couple of episodes of the Springwatch programme in the
evenings with Bill Oddie. It’s been compulsive viewing! But if you want to pop
along to this special event tomorrow in Queen Victoria Square from 10am! Have a
very good weekend. Look after yourself and I’ll see you on Monday. Look out for
your Levy Letter on Monday and join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Take care, bye

Peter
