Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half
past six. I’ll have all the day’s news as usual. Paul will have the forecast
and also tonight, we'll have the latest on the bin war in Scunthorpe. Look
North will be in the town with protesters, who are furious about their
fortnightly collections saying their bins are overflowing with rubbish. I'll
also be hosting a debate in the studio where a protestor and a councillor can
go head to head. I hope you can join me for that.

Also tonight, we'll be looking at the huge increase in agricultural deaths in
our region. We'll be investigating why it's so dangerous to work on farms and
asking what more can be done to improve safety. Plus I'll be looking at the new
diet craze of drinking maple syrup. Lincolnshire is the only place in the UK to
distribute it and I'll be looking at the health risks involved in this new fad
diet.

And I'll be chatting to the twelve year old genius, who will be getting his
maths A-level results today. Find out how he got on and watch as we put his
maths skills to the test. Plus we'll be on the set of the Hollywood film,
Atonement, in Grimsby and find out how our competition winner enjoyed her meal
with me and Paul last night. And believe it or not Paul actually got his wallet
out! That must be worth a watch! So tune in tonight on BBC One.

Response

Thanks very much indeed for all of your emails on a variety of subjects. We
were talking about student debt and I’ve had quite a few emails on that. Just
one here from someone, who will remain anonymous, because the lady has
requested that - “My youngest daughter, when she left university in 2001, left
with a debt of about £25,000 and that is besides all that which she borrowed
from us parents. At the time, my husband was a pensioner and I was earning
about £5000 a year. We still had to pay top up fees!” And so the letter goes
on. There you are. I know the average debt now is something like £16,500, but
student debt is a subject that always gets a big interest.

Also, not in the Levy Letter, but last night in the programme, we were talking
about the lack of breast feeding facilities in one town in Lincolnshire,
Boston. The subject of breast feeding has generated a huge number of emails
this morning. We’ll do some more on the programme tonight. But that’s a subject
that most people feel very strongly about and they are both for and against it
too. It’s not just one sided comments either and it’s almost fifty-fifty. If
you want to join in on the debate, then let me know your experiences of breast
feeding or what you think about breast feeding facilities in your area. Get in
touch to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Health

One of the things that we’ll be talking about on the programme is losing weight
and of course this new crazy diet that everyone is talking about – the maple
syrup diet. More about that tonight. But drinking just one cup of coffee could
kill you within an hour, scientists have warned. A study found that people at
risk of heart disease, who drink only the odd cup of coffee, could quadruple
their chances of suffering an attack. Even moderate drinkers of coffee are at
risk too. Even just one cup could increase their risk of a heart attack by 60%
according to researchers. The findings are likely to reignite the debate over
whether coffee is safe to drink. Many studies have found that drinking up to
five cups a day does not increase the risk of a heart attack. Well, one moment
you’re reading that coffee is alright and then you’re reading that it’s likely
to be bad for you, so as someone who likes coffee, I don’t know what to believe!

Red Heads

Well, according to a survey, which is out today, blondes do have more fun, but
red heads have more sex. Scientists, who studied the sex lives and hair colour
of hundreds of German women, found that red heads were the most sexually
active. The sex researcher, Professor Werner Habermehl said that the sex lives
of women with red hair were clearly more active than those with other coloured
hair. They had more partners and were having sex more often on average.
Research shows that the fiery red heads certainly live up to their reputation.
Women, who dye their hair red, are signalling that they are looking for a
partner and that they’re looking for sex. Women, who are in a fixed
relationship are letting their partners know that they’re unhappy if they dye
their hair red. So there you are. That research, it has to be said, is done in
Germany, so whether or not that has any bearing or not in the UK, we’ll have to
see. But red heads have better sex lives than anyone else. So, are the!
re any red heads reading? Then let me know what you think.

Competition

If you recently signed up to the Levy Letter, maybe even last night, then thank
you very much indeed. Your first daily Levy Letter is here and you’ll get one
every single day after that round about this time. The reason you might have
signed up is to win tickets to see Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour
Dreamcoat. This is a ticket for four people and it’s on at the Embassy Theatre
in Skegness. So, if you can’t get to Skegness, then it’s probably not best to
enter. But if you fancy having a go, then here is the question – name one of
the songs from the musical, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. One
song, of course, was a big hit in the charts with a hit single. But there are
loads of hit songs from that musical, and you’ve just got to name one. If you
think you know of one and you’d like to go to Skegness to see the show, then
email me straightaway to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It’s the same address as well if you’ve got any problems or issues that you
think I might be able to tackle on the programme on your behalf. Get in touch
and let me know and give me the details and don’t forget to include a contact
telephone number as well, so that I can call you. And for anything else that
you want to chat to me about, email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that's it from me for today. Thanks very much indeed for reading the Levy
Letter. As I say, if you’ve recently signed up, then thank you and welcome to
our Letter. But if there’s someone you know, who’s not signed up and you think
they would like one, then point them in the direction of either one of the two
addresses at the bottom of the page, click on Levy Letter and sign up.

Have a very good day and join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm. Bye for now.

Peter
