Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to today’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past
six. I'll have all the day's news and Lisa will have the forecast. Let’s hope
that today is going to continue how it is at the moment. It’s a beautiful sunny
day. Enjoy it if you can.

On tonight's programme, as a local MP puts Tony Blair on the spot over the
safety of Yorkshire troops in Basra, we'll have a special report from RAF
Leconfield. We’ll be finding out how the MOD is hitting back over the claims
that they're not doing enough to help soldiers. I’ll have the full story on
that tonight.

Plus we'll be making waves in Withernsea where campaigners say that not enough
is being done to regenerate seaside towns on our East Coast. And we'll have a
sneak preview of the new exhibition of the whale that inspired the story of
Moby Dick.

Also tonight, we'll be catching up with the Bishop of Lincoln, who's joining
the anti-slavery campaigners on their march through our region to London. And
find out which lucky school girl has won the right to star in the musical Annie
at Lincoln Theatre Royal. All that tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Rock Challenge

On Friday, 30th March, the proceeds of a dinner will be helping the pupils of
Archbishop Thurstan school’s Rock Challenge team. It’ll be taking pupils and
teachers to Australia. We did the story on the programme a few weeks back and
I’ve had a letter from the Preston Road committee, who are having a dinner.
Pupils from the East Hull school became the Northern Premier champions in a
performing arts competition, which gives youngsters a natural high and promotes
a healthy lifestyle. They now want to take their production to the home of Rock
Challenge in July 2007 in Sydney. Well, to achieve this the pupils have to
raise more than £100,000. They’ve already made significant progress with that
towards a trip of a lifetime. The Preston Road Neighbourhood Development group
is helping out with a three course dinner at the Freedom Centre on Preston Road
that’s at 7.30pm on 30th March. Entertainment will be by the West End star and
Archbishop Thurstan pupil, Liam Mower, who’ll be doin!
g two routines from Billy Elliot. So fingers crossed for the pupils of
Archbishop Thurstan school in raising money for that trip of a lifetime to go
to Australia this summer.

Alan Titchmarsh

One of the most famous Yorkshire men there is, Alan Titchmarsh has landed his
own chat show, according to some of the papers. He’s fulfilled an ambition to
land a daytime chat show. The former Ground Force host impressed ITV bosses
with his pilot episode and have offered him an entire series. The new show will
be featuring guests and live music. He’s signed a six figure deal to begin
filming forty episodes in the Autumn. I’m not quite sure yet though when it’ll
be on screen, so I’ll be looking out for that. Alan Titchmarsh just goes from
strength to strength.

Hugh Grant

Last Saturday week, I went to see the new film, Music and Lyrics starring Hugh
Grant. He’s forty-six now by the way and he certainly didn’t look his age in
the film. He has let us into a secret about why he looks twenty years younger
in the film when he has to look like an eighties pop star. He had an elastic
lift! It’s a tight piece of elastic band that goes around the face and is
invisible, but it makes you look as if you’ve had a face lift. He says, “I
loved it so much that I refused to take it off for a week.” What I want to know
is where I can get one! A lot of people though have moaned about his new film,
Music and Lyrics, but I thought it was great. If you see it, then let me know
what you thought.

Leave It

Don’t forget, if you’ve got a problem that you think we could deal with on
Leave it to Levy, then send me the details and let me know how I can help. Give
me a contact telephone number as well. Tell me how I can help and then leave
the rest to me. The email address, if you want to get in touch, is [EMAIL
PROTECTED]

Now we know how well Scunthorpe United are doing at the moment. If you are a
die hard Iron fan, well I'd like to hear from you as soon as possible for some
filming for Friday’s Look North. If you are a lifelong Scunthorpe fan and you’d
like to tell us how much you love your team and how proud you are of them, then
email me now. It’s the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Get in touch!

Size Zero

Most British women would rather have the voluptuous curves of Marilyn Monroe or
Sophia Loren than the tiny frame of a top model, according to a new survey.
There’s much talk at the moment about size zero. It seems that most women don’t
actually aspire to being that size. The findings offer evidence of a growing
backlash against the trend for a size zero body, measured as size four on a
British clothes rail. In fact, a stick thin body shape, as favoured by many
actresses and fashion designers, has been deemed as unnatural by a resounding
90% of British women. Gosh, the message is getting through at last! One
thousand five hundred women took part in this survey. The other thing is why
don’t they ask the men as well what they think about it all. Maybe that would
convince women that curvy figures are better.

Shirt

I don’t know how many shirts I get through in the course of a year, what with
having to wear a couple a day, every day! One of the biggest problems is that
they get stains on them. Well, it could be the answer for clumsy drinkers, who
struggle to stay looking clean and sparkling all day long. Britain’s first
stain-free shirt has gone on sale with the makers claiming that you can throw
anything at it and it emerges spotless. All sorts of spilt drinks that would
normally leave embarrassing marks are no longer a problem, so say the
manufacturers. I’m not going to fall for this, because when we first had the
non-iron shirt a few years back, I bought a couple. Of course, in this job, a
nicely ironed shirt is a must. And because ironing is something that I hate
doing, I invested in some of these non-iron shirts, thinking that this would be
the answer to my dreams and they never worked!! So a stain-free shirt is on the
market, but will it work! I haven’t actually found out yet how !
much they cost, so if you know let me know.

Banks

One of the things that I get moans about most on the Levy Letter and really for
the programme as well, is people moaning about their banks. And at the moment,
there is much discussion about banks charging, regardless of how much money
you’ve got in your account. It now seems that millions of customers are ready
to ditch Britain’s biggest bank in protest at the rip off charges, which is
helping to boost profits to £40 billion pounds. Researchers found that four out
of five account holders are set to swap to smaller rivals. The threat comes as
the big five have revealed a combined annual profit of more than 10% to £37.3
billion pounds. People are unhappy with their banks. If you’ve got any banks
stories then they’re gratefully received. And of course, if you’ve got anything
else you want to tell me, and don’t forget to keep those pictures coming in as
well, then get in touch - [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look forward to hearing from you.
And, as I said, get in touch if you’re a Sc!
unthorpe United fan. We want to hear from you!

Bye for now,

Peter
