Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We've got a special tonight on the subject of coastal erosion, I shall be with
a family at Ulrome near Skipsea who are having to dismantle their house brick
by brick because it’s falling into the sea. Paul will be with me as well,
that’s a special programme at half past six tonight, live from Ulrome on the
east coast.

Emails

Thanks for all the emails on loads of subjects, thank you for all of them, keep
them coming in. If you want to drop me a line this week you can get me direct
at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you’ve got a problem or a story you think would make a good one for the
programme then give me the details and give me the contact details and
telephone number as well. Just a reminder that you can always watch the latest
edition of Look North on our website if you missed it, or if you’re home late,
or if you want to watch one of the films again. That’s at
www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull.

Bills

We were talking about that story that 30% of Britons avoid paying bills on
time. We had a huge response on that. Apparently nearly a million people ignore
their bills. 30% glance at them and then set them aside, only 8% deal with
their bills straight away. Many find their bills and statements hard to read.
That was the thing that everyone picked up on, and they certainly agree with
it, so thank you very much indeed for all of those. The other thing that’s got
you going is the subject of telephone key pads, when you ring up somewhere and
then you have the music, then you have to make a selection to try and get put
through to the person that you want, then when you finally get the extension
that you want you find that they are busy. Big response on that.

Bowel Cancer

Taking an aspirin a day can help prevent bowel cancer according to researchers.
A new study published in the medical magazine The Lancet found that taking a
daily dose for five years can prevent disease later in life. Doctors usually
discourage people from taking aspirin over long periods of time due to the risk
of internal stomach ulcers, but the new study says that although the general
population should not take aspirin to prevent cancer, the benefits outweigh the
risks for those with a higher than average likelihood of developing the disease.

Eurovision

Music was the theme at the weekend of course and it was time for Eurovision
again. Now you either love it or you hate it, but it’s still very popular with
an estimated 100 million people tuning in this year, that’s an amazing number.
Apparently this year’s host city Helsinki went mad for the contest, with around
350 Eurovision events organised as spin offs in the Finnish capital.
After all the performances and the tense voting, the eventual winner was
Serbian singer Marija Serifovic with her ballad Molitva. Going into the contest
she had been ranked by bookies as the second favourite, behind Ukranian drag
queen Verka Serdyuchka.
It was another night of disappointment for the British entry Scooch who managed
to finish second bottom with their song Flying the Flag. Singer Caroline Barnes
from the group wasn’t deterred though, she said “I have to say I laughed so
much I cried at the voting. I'm not gutted.” Well good to see she enjoyed it,
it’s all taken as a bit of fun in this country, and if you have anything to say
about Eurovision then you can get in touch at the usual address.

And talking of music, I see that figures have shown that more and more under
fifteens are listening to classical music, especially on their ipods. Classical
music is usually associated with much older people, but now the under fifteens
are enjoying and appreciating classical music in greater numbers than ever
before.

Pictures

Don’t forget if you’ve got a picture or a photograph that you think we could
show on the programme one night then send it to me, either a hard copy in the
post or send it to me electronically at the usual address, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well that’s it from me today, just a reminder that our programme tonight it all
about coastal erosion, coming live from Ulrome at 6.30 and look out for your
Levy Letter tomorrow.

If you know someone who’s not signed up to the Levy Letter and they’d like one,
tell them to go to our new website address which is

me, see you at half past six.

Peter
