Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half
past six as usual. I'll have all the day's news and Paul will have the forecast.

On tonight's programme, we'll be at the nursery that's open twenty four hours a
day and only closes on Christmas Day. They say they're seeing a big increase in
demand for places as more and more parents struggle to combine their careers
with family life. So we’ll be taking a look around that nursery that’s open
twenty four hours a day near Kings Lynn tonight on the programme.

And we'll be asking for your help as fifteen thousand pounds worth of skate
park equipment could be destroyed in Lincoln. So tune in tonight to find out
how you can help.

It may not be the weather for it, but we'll be at the East Riding beach that's
received a blue flag award for the very first time. And we'll have a special
report from Beverley Beck as the first boats go through the newly restored lock
gates. Plus we'll be live at Sincil Bank ahead of the Imps crucial play off
semi final.

Last night on the programme, we were talking to the leader of the Conservative
Party. He’s very much in the news now with all the stories about their policy
on Grammar Schools. He was working in Kingswood in Hull for a couple of days as
a teaching assistant and I had a chat with David on the programme last night.
Thanks for all the emails on that subject and indeed on many other things as
well. And there’s been lots of offers from ladies, who fancy being Maid Marion
after our plea on Leave It To Levy. I’m sure we’ll have an update on that in
the next couple of days.

If you do want to drop me a line on any subject whatsoever and especially if
there’s something you need some help with, then send me a note to the usual
address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Fiesta

After thirty years and I’ve had a few in my time, Ford are scrapping the
Fiesta. They’re replacing it with a sportier version with a new name. Well,
three new names actually. The Ford Fiesta though, after thirty years, is being
scrapped. I expect many people had one of those as their first car! Fond
memories? Well, let me know if you have.

Post Offices

The story is in the news again today that five hundred post offices could close
in the North. Every time I’ve talked about this on the programme, I get a huge
response. It’s a sad story for those, who live in an area where their post
office will close. Just recently we’ve heard of course that a big post office
in the centre of Hull, which I actually visited just this morning, is to close.
There were queues and queues in there this morning with even an address system
to tell you which counter to go to, because there were so many people. And that
post office is closing and all those people will have to go to a high street
shop on Whitefriar Gate to do their transactions from now on. It’ll remain to
be seen how that works out and if that shop can cope with all those queues of
people.

Programmes

When you go to the theatre, then you often fancy buying a programme. In the old
days they used to be 20pence. And that wasn’t that long ago either I don’t
think. But these days, things have changed somewhat and theatre programmes can
often cost up to £5.00 or so. But for the FA Cup Final, the programmes are
going to be £10.00 each. That’s actually twice as much as the Royal Opera House
programmes. That’s just extraordinary isn’t it? £10.00 for a programme!

Tomorrow

Friday, Look North as usual will be on at half past six and it’s my pleasure
and honour to say that tomorrow I’m hoping to be able to meet Archbishop
Desmond Tutu. He’s coming to Hull to give a lecture this evening and hopefully
in the morning I’ll get to talk to him. You’ll be able to see my chat with him
on the programme tomorrow at half past six.

Baldness

Men, who are going bald, may be able to replenish their vanishing locks after
scientists have discovered a way to re-grow lost hair. In a finding that has
amazed world experts, adult skin was regenerated with follicles, which produced
new hair. The team behind the breakthrough went on to find the bodily process
triggering the regrowth and after pinpointing the molecules responsible they
may be able to work on a cure for hair loss! It’s a big story today. At last
there’s hope for a cure for baldness!

Manners

Eating with mouths open and chewing noisily and not saying please or thank you
could harm children’s careers and relationship prospects, say half of British
parents. Bad table manners are not tolerated in most homes as mums and dads say
it’s their job to teach their youngsters about meal time etiquette. More than
70% of parents say this is best done during family meals and they now make an
effort to eat with their children at least three times a week, according to a
new survey. Two thirds of parents feel the responsibility for manners and
social etiquette to be taught at home and they feel that if they don’t it’ll
harm that child’s career and relationship prospects later in life.

Well, that's it from me for now. Don’t forget our new website address –
www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull. There’ll be even more news on there, the latest
weather forecast and also the chance to watch the most recent Look North
programme. So take a look.

That’s it from me. Have a very good day and join me tonight on BBC One at half
past six.

Bye for now,

Peter
