Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half
past six as usual. I'll have all the day's news and Paul will have the forecast.

Tonight, we'll have the exclusive pictures of a daring rescue of a three year
old boy and his family from their home following a suspected arson attack in
Bridlington. And we'll have a special preview ahead of the local elections and
we'll be finding out what it'll mean for you.

Find out why Lincolnshire is set to be a favourite yet again with Hollywood
producers. And we need your help tonight. We’ll be talking to some Grimsby
teenagers, who are mad about Parkour and need your help tonight in a Leave It
To Levy. Plus if you’re green fingered, I'll be letting you know how you can
help preserve some of the region's rarest apple varieties. That’s all tonight
on BBC One at half past six. I hope you can join me then.

Emails

Thanks for the emails on a variety of subjects. Keep them coming in. Don’t
forget, if you’ve got a problem that you think I could help with on Leave It To
Levy, then let me know. Send me the details. And if there’s a story that you
think I should know about and investigate, then give me the details. Drop me a
line and give me the details via email and also give me a contact telephone
number as well. It’s [EMAIL PROTECTED] as usual.

I found out yesterday that BBC Radio Humberside have got some air fresheners to
give away for your car. I was fascinated by the phenomenon of last week where
grown adults were queuing outside a supermarket at 3 o’clock in the morning for
a bog standard unremarkable bleached cotton shopping bag that’s worth £5.00.
But hundreds and hundreds were being sold by a major supermarket and some
people started queuing at 3am. It was designed by Anya Hindmarch. Well, not to
be outdone, Vanessa Feltz, who has a show on BBC Radio London, which is the
sister station to BBC Radio Humberside, is taking on an experiment. From nine
o’clock this morning, she was standing in the foyer of the BBC in London,
giving away fifty of her Vanessa Feltz carrier bags. So we’ll have to see how
well they do! That’s given me an idea. Maybe I should get out a Peter Levy
carrier bag to give away on Look North. Any takers? Maybe not…

Tickets

Well, we heard that tickets weren’t selling and there were problems with the
big concert, which was planned for Hull this summer. One concert that is going
ahead is Barbra Streisand. She’s going to be singing in the summer in London’s
Arena, which is the former Millennium Dome. Barbra Streisand’s concert is the
first one in thirteen years. So far so good. But you’d better be prepared for
this one. If you want to go, the charges for tickets are £500. The cheapest
tickets are £100, but the rest are £500. Can you believe that? She had better
be good for £500. Can you imagine spending that much money to go see Barbra
Streisand? Some of the demands of the diva Barbra as she sets out on her
concert – well, one hundred and twenty bath towels to be provided immediately
on arrival for her production team. How many baths do they want? Ten floor
lamps of a certain style. Thirty-five banqueting tables. One hundred and fifty
folding chairs. Plain clothes security guards. Police dog units!
to sweep the auditorium before the sound checks. Metal detectors at all
entrance doors, including backstage. Two nineteen inch or larger TVs with
remote controls. So there you are. But if you want to go, then it’ll be £500,
which will presumably cover for the one hundred and twenty bath towels! The top
ticket price is more than three times what it would cost for the best seats to
see the Rolling Stones or Madonna in concert this summer.

Friendship

What price do you put on having a good friend? Economists have had a go. They
reckon that an £85,000 pay rise is the equivalent of having a good friendship.
They say that acquiring a new friend, your best friend, is like getting an
£85,000 pay rise. Who thinks of these things? It’s absolute rubbish isn’t it?
On the negative side, a painful divorce can bring misery the equivalent of
going into debt of £139,000. And if you suddenly lose your job, then it’s the
equivalent of losing £143,000. Whoever thought up these figures I’m not quite
sure!

Health

As you know, I’ve been eating the old nuts and seeds for about eighteen months
now. I see from a story today that a handful or two of pistachio nuts a day
could keep heart disease at bay, according to researchers. They appear to lower
cholesterol and keep arteries healthy. Just three ounces of pistachios a day is
enough to significantly lower the risk of heart disease and nuts are thought to
be rich in nutrients that reduce the hardening of the arteries, which is one of
the main causes of heart attacks and strokes. 1.5 ounces of the nuts a day is
what you need. The great thing about pistachios is that they are lovely to eat
and they are very moorish. The bad thing is that every time I look at them in a
supermarket, they appear to be exceedingly expensive for just a small bag of
nuts. And you find that most of the bag is shell! Do you have to pay for the
shell?

Anyway, that’s it for today. Don’t forget, if you want to drop me a line about
anything at all, then get in touch. And take a look at our website –
www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull. You can get lots of information about the
programme, the latest news and the forecast from Paul. You can watch the
previous night’s show in its entirety or just a particular report that you’d
like to see. So take a look! And if there’s anyone you know, who's not signed
up to the Levy Letter, and you think they would like one, then get them to go
to that address. Click on Levy Letter and tell them to sign up. They’ll then
get their daily email from me the following day.

Take care,

Peter
