Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We'll have all the day's news and stories as usual including a special report
tonight on a break through in stopping the spread of the super-bug MRSA in our
region's hospitals.

The organiser of the Freedom Rocks concert that was suddenly cancelled
yesterday will be speaking live on the show to explain why they pulled the
plug.

We'll be listening to traders in North Lincolnshire who claim regeneration work
is costing them their livelihoods.

And we'll reveal the secret from the 1930s hidden under the sand at Spurn Point.

As usual, Paul will have the weather forecast for our region.

April

Well what a wonderful April it’s been. It’s the warmest in about 300 years of
records. Of course Paul was there last night to give us the statistics in Brid.
It’s been a tremendous month, let’s hope it’s going to be a good summer. Don’t
forget, if you’re involved with a group or an organisation and you’d like a
little plug in the Levy Letter, as long as it’s for a good cause then drop me a
line, send me an email with the details and leave the rest to me.

Thanks for your emails on a variety of subjects. I’ve got one here from the
Caxton Players in Grimsby from their treasurer Len Wood. He says

“We’re staging our third production for 2007 which is Nobody’s Perfect. It’s a
comedy and it opens on Saturday 5th of May. It runs for 7 nights at the Caxton
Theatre, Cleethorpes road in Grimsby, Give us a mention, we are a totally self
supporting charity and we rely on ticket sales to survive.”

Good luck to the Caxton Players with their production of Nobody’s Perfect,
which starts its run on Saturday 5th of May. As I say, if you’re involved with
a group and you’d like a plug then drop me the line, give me the details and if
you’ve got a story you think we should know about or a problem for us to tackle
then drop me a line and give me a telephone number as well at the usual address

Post Natal Depression

The rate of mothers suffering from Post Natal Depression has doubled to 20%
according to new figures. The rise is being blamed on distressing experiences
suffered by many women during labour at overstretched maternity units run by
the NHS all across the country. The survey by the Royal College of Midwives
shows that the number of mothers of children up to a year old who have the
condition is even higher at 27%. So there we are, the rate of new mums
suffering depression has doubled to 20% according to new figures just out.

Showbiz

She played Mavis Wilton in Coronation Street for many year, her name is Thelma
Barlow, and she’s got a new role now at 77. She’s famous of course for saying
“I don’t really know” if she did actually say that. She’s playing a new role
terrorising a time lord in Doctor Who. So there we are, that’s Mavis spreading
evil on Doctor Who. She’s a very good actress as well, that’s Thelma Barlow. We
wish her all the very best.

Birds

Mobile phone masts have been blamed for the disappearance of House Sparrows
from our gardens. Experts believe that the electro magnetic radiation from the
masts may disrupt their navigation systems so they are increasingly avoiding an
area with high numbers of the structures. The sparrow population peaked at
about 13 million pairs in the late 1970s. The latest figures say there are
maybe only about 6 million in the UK. Now a new report is pointing the finger
at mobile phone masts. That’s the vanishing sparrows in the UK.

Wonder Pill

Well it could be the answer to many women’s prayers, not to mention men’s. A
wonder pill has been developed that not only boosts the female sex drive, but
helps her lose weight at the same time. Can this be too good to be true? Well
so far it’s been tested only on shrews and monkeys, but scientists believe
humans could be taking it in ten years. Professor Robert Millar discovered the
double benefit while developing a hormone to treat the loss of libido, a
problem that affects millions of women in this country.
During tests on animals he found that as well as displaying a greater keenness
for sex, they seemed to lose interest in food.

Pictures

Don’t forget if you’ve got a picture or a photo you think I ought to see for
the show then send it in. You can send me a hard copy in the post to us at
Queen’s Court, Queen’s Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH. Or you can send it to me
electronically at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well that’s it from me, enjoy your Tuesday afternoon and join me tonight for
Look North as usual on BBC One at half past six.

Peter
