Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Monday's Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past
six as usual. I'll have all the day's news and Paul will have the forecast.

On tonight's programme, ahead of the local elections, we'll be getting the
latest on the postal vote problems that are happening in North East
Lincolnshire. Plus we'll be talking with the migrant workers, who are concerned
about extremists getting votes in the local elections. They fear that it will
mean negative prospects for foreign workers in the region. I’ll have the full
story tonight on the programme.

Also tonight, we'll be finding out why a top rock concert in the city has been
scrapped. We'll be finding out what that means for music fans, who've bought
tickets. And we'll be following the Lincoln Ladies Football team, who have been
showing the men up on the pitch.

And we'll be finding out why this glorious weather is positive news for peas,
but bad news for barley. We'll be live in Bridlington tonight for Paul's
forecast to find out how this weather is affecting the tourist trade on our
East Coast. That’s all tonight on BBC One at half past six. I hope you can join
me then.

April

Well, it’s been an extraordinary month and now it’s at its end. And as I say
Paul will be doing the forecast tonight live from Bridlington. The forecast so
far? Well, April has been the hottest April ever since they started keeping
records around three hundred and forty-eight years ago back in 1659. The Met
Office has also revealed that the twelve months from May 2006 to April 2007
have been the warmest ever. So it’s been the hottest twelve month period that’s
just past. This weekend, thousands were out in the sunshine. It was a little
bit windy in our part of the world, but in some parts temperatures reached
around eighty-two degrees Fahrenheit. That’s just extraordinary. It’s been the
hottest April ever and there’ll be some more regional statistics on the
programme tonight as Paul does the forecast from Bridlington.

Weekend

Whatever you had planned at the weekend, then I hope it went very well indeed
and I hope you enjoyed it. And don’t forget if you’re involved in an event for
charity that’s coming up in the near future and you’d like a little plug in the
Letter then drop me a line. Send me the details. And if you’ve got a problem or
a story that you think I could help with on Leave It To Levy, then let me know.
Send me the details to the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Theatre

Just a couple of things to mention on the theatre front. This weekend one of
the biggest musicals ever, ten years since it’s been on in the West End, is
Fame The Musical. It’s on this week at Hull New Theatre. If you’re going, then
enjoy, although I’m sure you will as it’s a great show. And eleven year old
Shannen Egan of West Hull is preparing to play the lead role in a national tour
of the musical Annie. She and another Hull girl, Brooke Wright, who’s ten, will
share the role after beating dozens of hopefuls. Playing the role of Annie at
school wasn’t enough for Shannen. She’s now preparing to star in the musical
role in theatres across England and Ireland. She attends the Kelvin Hall School
in Bricknell Avenue in West Hull. She’s no stranger to the stage. It’s an
amazing success story. Well done to both Shannen and Brooke, who are about to
share the role of Annie in a huge tour, which is just about to start.

Hugh Grant

Yes, you’ve read the stories. Hugh Grant has allegedly thrown a can of baked
beans at somebody. Well, I’m sort of less interested in what Hugh did or didn’t
say to the paparazzi photographer when he hurled the beans. I was slightly more
fascinated by the fact that one of the world’s most eligible bachelors is
actually eating take away beans alone for his supper. So there you are. Hugh
Grant is in the news again and possibly in a little trouble with the police yet
again! And am I cynical to say that he’s back in the news again just as there’s
something to plug! Not that I’m cynical at all am I?

Photographs

If you’ve got a digital camera and you were out and about in this beautiful
sunshine that we’ve been having this last week or so and have taken some
particularly good pictures that you think we should show on the programme, then
do send me one. Either send a hard copy in the post or in electronic form via
an email. I, of course, will show it on the programme at some point. We’re
certainly looking for the more unusual snaps as well. Send them to me to the
usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Elections

Local elections are this week of course. There’ll be full coverage on BBC Radio
Humberside and Radio Lincolnshire and on Look North. It’s estimated in Hull
that there will be one of the lowest turnouts in the country. They reckon that
only about 25% of people will vote in the local elections. Anyway, there will
be full coverage all this week, if you’re interested in local politics. So keep
across our local radio stations and Look North.

Well, that's it from me for today. Enjoy your Monday afternoon and join me
tonight on BBC One at half past six as usual.

Bye for now,

Peter
