Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half
past six as usual. It’s a short week this week. It’s Wednesday already.

On tonight’s programme, we'll be looking at whether Hull is a big enough city
to be able to stage big pop concerts. This comes after claims of massive losses
following the highly anticipated Who concert at the KC Stadium at the weekend.
I’ll have more on that tonight.

And it's the biggest issue on the Lincolnshire coast today. On Look North
tonight we'll be asking should the plans go ahead to build a 21st century
version of our historical beach hut. The residents on the East Coast are up in
arms over the controversial modern design, but tune in tonight and let us know
what you think about it – an eyesore or a modern take on the humble beach hut?

Plus we'll have the story of a woman, who plundered council coffers to fund her
Elvis obsession. Now thousands of pounds worth of her precious memorabilia is
being auctioned off to help pay back her debts to the council.

And many of us have one of them in our gardens, but they're not just for the
kids. Find out how you can get in shape by burning off the calories and toning
up by bouncing along on a trampoline.

And of course, I’ll have the rest of the day’s news, including talking to the
residents on one street in Lincolnshire where residents are celebrating after
kicking out the drug dealers. And there’ll be the forecast with Lisa on BBC One
at half past six. I hope you can join me then.

Marathon

Well, here we are, very nearly at the end of May. June is here on Friday. The
10k race is coming up for the Humber Half Marathon on the 24th June. It’s a
Sunday morning. Paul and I will be down there close to the bridge to start the
race off. If you can make it down, then I look forward to seeing you on Sunday
morning on the 24th June.

Film

I forgot to mention it yesterday. I saw a film at the weekend with Mitchell and
Webb – The Magicians. I went to see that at Kingswood in Hull. It’s a very good
film and highly recommended by me. It’s quite a good laugh and a bit of a
giggle – a bit of a television film really, but was very enjoyable
nevertheless. I think I’ve mentioned this before that I’m not a great lover of
the cinema myself, but enjoyed that one at the weekend. If you can get to see
that one, then enjoy.

Well done to the cast of Joseph And His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat – I went
to see that on Saturday night at the New Theatre. A fabulous show as always and
although it didn’t really need reviving as such, the interest in the show had
increased enormously off the back of that TV show. So well done to all the cast
and crew involved in that production.

Events

If you’re involved in an event and you’d like a plug in the Levy Letter, then
drop me a line and send me the details. There’s a note here from Emma telling
me about a Barn Dance to raise funds for the Daisy Appeal. It’s at the
Nightingales restaurant in Castle Hill on Saturday 9th June between 8pm and
12am with the White Horse Ceilidh band. Tickets are available on 01482 842943
and I hope it goes well for everyone involved in that one. That’s for the Daisy
Appeal on Saturday 9th June.

And if you’re out and about in Hull this week you may see a recognisable face!
Pudsey will be out and about, probably with a bucket or two for donations to
Children In Need. Josie Bond got in touch with me to tell me about her event.
She wants to continue the Children In Need cause all the way through the year.
This week there’s lots going on including a big charity night this Friday 1st
June at the Freedom Centre on Preston Road. They’re being supported by students
and staff from Wilberforce College with dance groups and performances and I
believe even my tie will be auctioned off for the cause! So if you see Pudsey
out and about in Hull this week, then go over and give him a cuddle! And
perhaps put a few coins into his bucket too! It’s all for Children In Need and
well done to Josie for organising this event. Pop along to the Freedom Centre
on Preston Road this Friday from about 7pm and support Children In Need.

Who

As I said in that earlier version of the Levy Letter, The Who played in Hull on
Saturday night. And if you were there on Saturday at the KC Stadium and saw the
The Who, then get in touch with me. I want to hear more of your views on this
one. So get in touch with me as soon as you can on this one and let me know.
Email me straightaway on [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look forward to hearing from you.

Money

Once upon a time, just a few quid as a windfall would have been very welcome.
Well now it seems that most of us say that we’ll need at least £100,000 to make
a real difference to our lifestyle. And we wouldn’t necessarily spend it going
mad at the shops. Most would use it simply to get their finances back in the
black! Two thirds cited £100,000 as the very least that they would need to
improve their lifestyle in a survey of more than two thousand savers and
spenders. At the other end of the scale, only 6% would be satisfied with £1000
windfall. Britons are now in debt to the tune of £1.3 drillion pounds. That’s
more than £28,000 for every adult in the country. Unbelievable! Experts say
that the culture of ‘keeping up with the Jones’ is to blame with many of us
splashing out on holidays and expensive meals that go beyond our means. Most of
us say that £100,000 is the minimum amount of money that we need to get us back
on track!

Brides

Talking of money – it used to be the day that a bride showed everyone how much
she was in love, but now all she cares about on her big day is impressing her
guests and beating her friends in the race for the perfect wedding. The battle
of the brides is a new part in the trend dubbed the competitive wedding
syndrome, according to a new survey. This year’s wedding season begins in
earnest this weekend. The competition is hotting up. The average cost of a
wedding? Well, the bride’s dress costs £950. Bridesmaid’s dresses and shoes at
£350. The ceremony fees at £410. Invitations are £210, plus postage. Flowers
are £150. Photographer is now £1000. Wedding rings x2 £800. Car hire and other
items £850. The reception and venue £1500. Champagne £825. Wedding breakfast
for a hundred guests at £3800. Wine £850, soft drinks £250, evening buffet
£900, cake £250, DJ £300. The average honeymoon is £3500 – that total then is
£18,195!! That’s the average cost of a wedding in this country. Tha!
 t’s staggering isn’t it?

That’s it from me today. Enjoy your afternoon and drop me a line about that Who
concert as soon as you can.

Bye for now,

Peter
