Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We’ve had a big response on email at the moment, so thank you very much indeed
for all of those, keep them coming in. If you want to drop me a line about any
story we’ve done, or if you’ve got a story you think we should be doing you can
reach me on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

On the programme tonight we'll have the very latest as huge sweeping changes
come to the Hull education system. Plus we'll be hearing what Hull West and
Hessle MP, and Education Secretary Alan Johnson has to say about the plans.

There’s anger as a memorial to Bomber Command is left cordoned off in a storage
area instead of being on public display.

We’ll be visiting the high tech computer company investing millions in its new
base.... inside a nuclear bunker!

Also tonight, we go behind the scenes of the hit musical Starlight Express as
it comes to our region. We'll be speaking to one local girl working on the
production as a wardrobe assistant. That’s all coming up tonight at the usual
time of half past six.

Well as I said, we’re always getting a lot of emails in to the programme, one
viewer last night emailed in to complain about something we showed that he
found rather shocking. Of course sometimes on the news we show things that
might shock people or be upsetting, and this was one of those cases. We showed
pictures of Radio Humberside’s David Burns when we did a link up with the
Sports Talk programme last night, and an anonymous viewer wrote in to say
“What a mistake you made putting a picture of Burnsy on the telly. I always
imagined him to be a young handsome looking chap, it's quite a shock. Please
don't do that again.”
Well I can only apologise for the distress that must have caused, we’ll try to
put a warning on screen before we do that again.

Shoes

Well anyone who’s shuffled around a holiday resort in a pair may need some
convincing, but flip flops could actually aid athletic development, that’s
according to the makers of the Fit Flop, likely to be this summer’s must have
accessory.
Apparently thousands of people joined a waiting list to buy these sandals which
cost just £36 and aim to tone your leg muscles while you walk. You can of
course buy flip flops for £4.99. These are the healthy ones at a mere £36
designed to help your legs, they’re on sale right now.

Pictures

If you’ve got a picture you think we should see for the big screen, send them
in. We probably don’t want any more bird pictures, we’ve been inundated with
those. And we showed for the first time last night a video someone had sent in.
Videos also gratefully received if you know how to send them in via email.
Personally I wouldn’t have a clue. I look forward hearing from you.

Cooking

Well after Gordon Ramsay and the rest of them, it’s welcome back to the real
domestic goddess. Five years after hanging up her oven gloves for positively
the last time, can you believe it, Delia Smith is making a comeback. Our all
time favourite TV chef, who absented herself from the screen to spend more
time with her football club Norwich City, is going to make a series for the BBC
based on the best selling book she wrote 36 years ago, How to Cheat at Cooking.
Well after five years, what they’re saying is that Delia Smith is back with
recipes that work, no tantrums, and not one f-word. Welcome back. I think she’s
going to be a huge hit.
I always remember for one birthday, I think I was about 20 or 21, I was given a
Delia Smith book called Cooking for One, which I still have. It’s sad, I know.

Graduates

Well education is in the news today with talk about academies for our schools
in Hull. Apparently highly educated women are twice as likely to end up in low
paid jobs than a decade ago according to a new report. Nearly one in eight
female graduates, compared to 5.4% in the mid nineties is employed as a
receptionist or nursery nurse rather than in professional or management roles.
The report found that 17% were employed as secretaries, 11% as sales
assistants, and 5% in elementary jobs such as traffic wardens or road sweepers.
So highly educated women, in other words those who’ve been to university, are
stuck in jobs they didn’t actually train for. The figure is higher now than it
was 15 years ago.

Happiness

It’s one of the most pondered questions of all time, can money buy happiness?
Well the answer according to a study is yes, but so can friendships and
successful relationships. Researchers have been trying to calculate what effect
our finances and our lifestyle have on our emotions. Well according to this
report, marriage increases happiness levels by the same amount as earning an
extra £54,000 a year, while surprisingly living together was worth more at an
extra £82,500. Meanwhile chatting to your neighbours on a regular basis would
make you as happy as getting a £40,000 a year pay boost.
What is this all about? I don’t understand that at all. What would you rather
do, chat with your neighbour or have a £40,000 pay increase? I think I’d know
which I would rather do. Well your views on that or anything else, drop me a
line, and don’t forget our website as well. If you want to watch the more
recent edition of Look North and the reports included on it, then the website
address is www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull.

Enjoy your Tuesday, join me tonight. Bye for now.

Peter
