Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We'll have all the day's news as we bring you the exclusive story of how people
power has seen residents in one East Yorkshire village bring back their post
office.

We'll talk to a disabled woman who suffered the holiday from hell after she was
promised wheelchair access only to find her hotel was half way up a Spanish
mountain!

And it's time to say goodbye to one of the RAF's most famous aircraft with a
special fly over in Lincolnshire. Yes, it’s farewell to the county’s Jaguars.

And we’ll also have the forecast which comes from Lisa Gallagher. Join us
tonight on BBC One at half past six as usual.

TV

Well it’s exciting times on the TV at the moment if you follow some of the
programmes. Of course the Joseph programme is coming towards a close, and last
night it was The Apprentice. It was the funniest episode I’ve seen so far.
Naomi was voted off last night, so just five left, and next week three will go,
and then it’ll be down to the final two. I still reckon Katie Hopkins, despite
all her mouth on her, could be the one to win. But we’ll have to see who Sir
Alan will go with. The Apprentice is quite exciting at the moment, and it
continues again next week on BBC One on Wednesday.

Also starting last night on BBC One, Traffic Cops. It was an hour long
programme following Humberside Police, mostly filmed in Grimsby and Hull. It
was fascinating and gave us a real insight into the work that they do and also
the pressures they’re up against. There were some superb performances, and
often you find with the police they’re not that chatty or not that human, but
they came across as extremely human, particularly the females. It was good to
hear them talk as well. So well done to the members of the Humberside Police
Force involved in that last night.

Internet

Children as young as eight are meeting up with strangers on the internet
without their parents’ knowledge according to a frightening new study. The
survey found that 1 in 5 children aged 8 to 15 admitted to seeing people they
had first contacted online. Yet only 7% of parents were aware of such face to
face meetings. That’s amazing isn’t it? Children as young as 8 meeting with
strangers who they’ve got to know through the internet. The survey also found
that vulnerable youngsters are unwittingly handing out data such as their full
names and phone numbers that could be accessed by identity thieves. One in five
children have met a stranger from the internet, according to a new report out
today.

Wonders

The channel tunnel has been voted one of the 7 wonders of the modern world,
despite having an image of being under used and over priced. The debt ridden
link between England and France is considered a spectacular feat of
engineering. So there we are, in this country the seven best are Big Ben first,
the Eden project in Cornwall, which I visited last year. That’s at number two.
The London Eye is number three, Buckingham Palace is number four. The Angel of
the North is number five, the Humber Bridge came in at number 6, and the new
Wembley Stadium was number 7. They were the best wonders in Britain.

Weather

One of the national newspapers love to have stories about the weather, that and
house prices. They say that Britain will swelter this summer as the Met office
slashes the odds of temperatures breaking all time records. There’s a good
chance that the mercury will rise beyond a sizzling 100 degrees Fahrenheit,
that’s 38 Celsius. Forecasters previously thought the prospects of an
exceptionally hot summer, which begins officially today, weren’t particularly
high, but the Met office said that long term average temperatures could now
exceed those of the heat waves of last year and 2003. So according to them, it
is going to be a bumper year for high temperatures. A Met office spokesman said
“We’re predicting that this summer’s temperatures will be above the average.”
We’ll have to wait and see.

Well that’s it from me today, don’t forget if you have a story that we should
know about, drop me a line at the usual address [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look
forward to hearing from you.

Peter
