Good afternoon! Peter is away for a few days, but I’m here, Tim Iredale, for
your Letter today and will be presenting the programme tonight as well.

It seems such a long way away, but our region’s councils are buzzing about the
Olympics in 2012. Find out why several sites across our region could be in the
running to host top athletes and teams in the 2012 Olympics. We’ll be finding
out what local councils are doing to attract the Olympic committee to come to
our region and what it could mean for businesses.

We'll have a special report on the £80 million pound plan to transform Hull's
skyline and as the heat rises in the argument to save local fire stations,
we'll be in Goole as campaigners fight against plans to downgrade local
stations.

And Damian Johnson will be with us with a round up of the weekend's sport,
including looking back at Lincoln City's final match under manager, Peter
Jackson. That’s on BBC One at the usual time of half past six.

Weather

It’s the usual discussion attributed to British people isn’t it! The weather!
Here’s a text come in from Irene in Louth. “Perhaps something for Paul to
comment on. This has been the sunniest February since 1946 but 1947 was the
worst winter of the 20th century. A sign of things to come perhaps?” It
certainly does seem like the weather is making the news more and more often
doesn’t it? And now after our sunniest February, are we to have any snow? Paul
will have the forecast for us as usual.

Baby Robot

Teaching your child to talk is a very difficult process. You certainly need a
lot of patience! But imagine trying to teach a baby robot to speak! A
university in Devon is preparing to find out if a baby robot can be taught how
to speak. The researchers are working with a one metre high humanoid baby robot
called iCub to research how parents teach their children to speak. Their
findings could lead to the development of humanoid robots which learn, think
and talk!

Well, that’s it for the Letter for today. I’ll be with you for tonight’s Look
North. I hope you can join me.

Tim
