Hello and welcome to the last Levy Letter of the week. I hope youve had a good one, and if you have anything planned for the weekend then I hope it goes very well indeed. Of course if you get up to anything interesting, or if you take any unusual pictures over the next few days then let me know, and drop me a line at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Lets hope the weathers nice, well have the full weekend weather forecast coming up on the programme as always.
Also coming up on Look North tonight at half past six on BBC One, Ill speak to Lincolnshire's new Police Chief Constable about the county's big issues on his first day in office. We'll be speaking to world famous names Sir Bob Geldof, Elle McPherson, and George Foreman - revealing what they're doing in Hull today. Its not every day we can say that in the city! We look ahead to the train strike due to hit Lincolnshire tomorrow, and find out how much disruption is expected. Of course if you have to take a train on Saturday youll be able to get the latest updates tomorrow on Radio Lincolnshire and on the BBC Lincolnshire website. We follow the row that's erupted over one of the country's most expensive town councils. Now the people of Immingham are launching a fresh bid to scrap the council costing the average tax payer £100 a year. Lincoln City manager Peter Jackson tells us his story after receiving the all clear from throat cancer. And we welcome back our reporter Elaine Dunkley as she returns from the Carribean on board the Hull and Humber Clipper boat. Well hear about her adventures later on the programme at half past six. House Prices Back to the Levy Letters favourite topic of house prices, and another big lender came out yesterday with some depressing news for property owners. The cost of a home fell by 2.4% in May, which I mentioned in the letter last week, but there are some more statistics here saying that fall represents a £5,000 drop in the price of the average house in just one month. By the end of 2009, house prices are expected to be 20% down on what they were at their peak, and this could mean a prolonged economic downturn for the UK. According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the number of first time buyers showing interest in houses has dropped for 17 months running now. I suppose that means people are either living with their parents or renting accommodation these days. They have to be living somewhere. However, this all comes after an incredible rocketing of prices which saw the average home value rise £88,000 between August 2002 and August 2007. That is an huge increase, but it looks like the bubble is slowly bursting. Breathing Spaces BBC Radio Humberside's Springwatch Action Team or "SWAT" - will descend on the bank of the Humber at Brough Haven on Sunday to transform the Humber walk into a haven for wildlife. Its part of a BBC campaign to create some lovely spaces to enjoy nature. The Humberside Police Lifestyle winners "The Brough Babes" are involved in helping to clean up rubbish so work can begin on enhancing the walk. The team will be putting in plants to attract butterflies and also installing bird and bat boxes to attract local wildlife back to the foreshore area. That sounds very worthwhile, and I look forward to seeing the work when its finished. There are more details at bbc.co.uk/breathing places, and if youre involved then I hope it goes well.
