If you go, then let me know how it was, and if you take any interesting pictures then send them along to me at the usual address [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look forward to seeing some of them.
Dont forget to join me for Look North tonight at half past six on BBC One, well have all the days news and stories from our part of the world as always, and of course the detailed weather forecast. Royal Ascot Well its not really my scene, but you have to admit that the attending ladies and gentlemen at Royal Ascot are as much an attraction as the races themselves. You might think that with the outrageous outfits and hats on display that you could get away with wearing pretty much anything as long as its expensive, but apparently there are very strict dress rules this year. Ladies at last years event ruffled a few distinguished feathers by wearing outfits that were too revealing and inappropriate, so if youre attending what should you avoid? Well the organisers saw fit to crack down on strapless dresses, and any straps must be a minimum of one inch in width. They must not be backless or transparent, and ladies must attend in a hat or substantial fascinator. Now Im not sure what that means, but I think its something worn on the head. They use a whole different language, dont they? For men, a top hat and tails is obligatory, with a waist coat also worn. I think its a lot easier for men to stick to these rules than for women, theres less leeway for fashion faux pas. I was also interested to read that to even get into the Royal Enclosure, which is where all these posh frocks are worn, you need to pay a fee of £82, and must be sponsored by somebody whos attended at least four times. So its an expensive day out, and you must have the right connections. If you go along this year then let me know how it is, it seems very glamorous as long as you wear the right things. Super-yachts You know how it is, youve just bought your multi-million pound super-yacht and youre ready to head out to the Caribbean or Monte Carlo then you realise you havent got the crew members to staff your onboard gym, helicopter pad, and restaurant. Well maybe you dont know how that is, but its apparently a problem faced on increasing numbers of yachts and its led to an academy being formed in Portsmouth to deal with the staff shortage. The market for luxurious private yachts has grown 500% in the last decade, and numbers of super-yachts are thought to be about 4,000 around the world. The increased numbers of these craft sailing the seas has meant that staff trained to work on these yachts are in short supply, thats despite salaries being on offer between 2,000 and 10,000 euros a month, tax free. Of course you also get the perk of travelling with billionaires and superstars to some of the most exclusive locations in the world. Britain is one of the main builders of the luxurious yachts, and much of the demand comes from clients in Russia, the Middle East, and the Balkans, where presumably there are the people who can afford to splash out £25 million a time on super-yachts that can feature gyms, mini submarines, and swimming pools. I dont know why youd need a swimming pool when youre in the middle of the ocean or moored in a billionaires harbour, but then I dont think these people are strangers to excess. So if youre looking for crew members, there could be a new generation in training for all your luxury needs, or if youd like to work onboard one of these floating mansions then maybe you should join up. I think the second option is probably more likely. Well thats about it from me for today. Join me tonight for Look North at half past six on BBC One, and dont forget if theres anything you know that you think we should know about then get in touch with me and drop me an email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] And dont forget to send me any interesting pictures to show on the programme or any comments on our stories.
