Hi, Peter here. There has been a lot of speculation about UFOs over the area on New Years Eve and from the many messages received here at BBC Look North, it seems the most likely explanation is the release of so called Chinese Lanterns that burn a candle in a paper balloon and burn out after drifting for around 20 minutes. I would love to hear from you, if you know any different! Tomorrow, I am chatting to the Right Reverend Richard Frith, the Bishop of Hull, on my radio show between 12 noon and 2pm and hope you will be able to join me on BBC Radio Humberside 95.9FM, 1485AM or on DAB. You can also listen live or listen again at bbc.co.uk/humberside.
Identity Theft We all have to be conscious of the possibility of identity theft, but it seems it can be a problem for almost anyone. The President of Guyana has asked police to investigate who is impersonating him on Facebook, the social networking website. A government statement said that Bharrat Jagdeo was not a Facebook member, the Associated Press reported. The apparent Jagdeo page has more than 170 supporters, and features images of the president as well as his biography. Last year, a Moroccan was jailed for setting up a Facebook profile in the name of a member of the royal family. Facebook also removed two bogus profiles of Bilawal Bhutto, son of the murdered Pakistani politician Benazir Bhutto, after an investigation found the entries "not authentic". The Guyana government said that officials also discovered that someone had impersonated the president of the South American nation on another social networking site. Read more about it on bbc.co.uk Model Middle Riddle Underwear model Karolina Kurkova has no belly button. Is a barely-there navel for cosmetic or medical reasons? The newspapers call it the "riddle of the £2.5m beauty". The beauty in question is Czech supermodel Karolina Kurkova. The riddle is her non-existent belly button. Its absence was noticed this week when the 24-year-old graced a US catwalk for lingerie giant Victoria Secret. While most of us have an "outie" or an "innie", Ms Kurkova has a smooth indentation (although sometimes a tummy button is airbrushed onto her photos in post-production). Ms Kurkova has not spoken publicly about how she came to have a smooth navel, and all her agent will say is "she's not an alien". Ms Kurkova's lack of navel doesn't seem to be hindering her career. Forbes magazine ranked her as the eighth highest paid model in the world last year, with estimated annual earnings of over £2m. What she's got is far more eye-catching than what she hasn't. Love Nest After the delightful story I told you yesterday about the two young lovers who tried to elope to Africa, I am pleased to report that Basil the cockerel who was rescued by a farmer after being evicted from a Tyneside council estate has also found love a little closer to home though! Basil was adopted by residents of Henderson Avenue, Gateshead, in 2008 but following complaints the council issued the bird with a notice to quit. Claire Thorburn, 32, took him in at her farm in Bamburgh and he became a companion to her 23 hens. However one hen, Bonnet, has caught his eye and it is hoped there will be a brood of chicks by Spring. The campaign to save the popular, but noisy, cockerel from eviction sparked national interest, with hundreds of people joining a "Save Basil" group on the social-networking site Facebook. He was eventually taken in by Ms Thorburn where he met Bonnet. Ms Thorburn said: "Everywhere Basil goes Bonnet runs along after him, she is really in love. "Th! is is a case of true love conquering all, she is a battery hen and her survival has defied all odds, and he fought against eviction from his Gateshead home and became a celeb in the poultry world." Joyce Callaghan, his main keeper in Gateshead, has been to visit Basil and said: "Bonnet just adores him and I hope there will be some chicks soon." Hope you will join me on tonights Look North at 6.30pm. Take care.
