In august the LPI wrote that it "has delivered ... 35,000+ certifications" ( See http://list.lpi.org/pipermail/lpi-discuss/2006-August/002523.html ) Publishing how many of this certs are LPIC-1 and how many are LPIC-2 would prove what the majority does.
