I'd agree...but we're working with the LPIC 1 exams <as they currently are>, but we can work on revising problem questions sooner rather than later. This will be up to Kara. 8)

I agree. But please make sure that we unambiguously communicate our approach to our candidates:

* the localized LPI glossary or the exam objectives must contain
  all the valid localized answers.


* a candidate must be informed that LPI's FITB-parsing mode will accept localized answers.

Furthermore manual scoring, our current scoring system, our new scoring system, VUE, and Prometric must be able to handle localized text. With Chinese for example I had difficulties to decide if the answer matches with the list of correct answers. (I know you won't.)


Actually, ten years ago I could have, because I lived in Taiwan and studied at a National Taiwan University (but now, well....). VUE and Prometric deal with this all the time, and I just need to be sure we pay attention to what we're doing and make sure they set things up correctly. Kara will be very important to this transition.

FYI I have "completed" one major revision of our paper testing/proctoring policies/security that will be released in the near future. As part of this, we will be changing how we're dealing with scoring on paper exams in the near future.


I already have a hard time to make candidates familiar with the multiple choice types like "single answer correct", "select all that apply", "choose _two_ that apply", as in Germany multiple choice is not very common. So please bear in mind that keeping it simple and stupid is often much better for the candidates than trying to help with additional features.

I'm glad you brought this up. Like I said before, we're learning all the time about item writing...Kara's knowledge (and DEFINITELY mine) is being shaped by this experience. We didn't know what we didn't know.



One thing that could really help the candidate would be a candidate manual similar to the TOEFL bulletin.

I've worked with those, we could definitely do that. In fact, our website goes a long way toward that, but perhaps more detail on the STYLE of our exams might be useful (referencing your comments above) http://www.ets.org/toefl/bulletin.html
