Dear LYX developers: I am reporting a repeatable crash with LYX.
LYX (or Ubuntu) sent you a crash report at 11:31-11:32 AM EST, 28 Nov 2025, USA (same time zone as New York City and Washington DC). This is a follow up to that crash report providing details on how to make the crash happen. It is localized and repeatable!!! The original file compiled to a 72 page PDF. However, I cut out the part that makes LYX crash to less than one page, and it still crashes. See attached LYX file. Details follow. My system configuration is: *****LYX version:******* Version 2.4.0~RC3 (Friday, February 9, 2024) Qt Version (run-time): 5.15.13 on platform wayland Qt Version (compile-time): 5.15.13 OS Version (run-time): Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS Python detected: 3.12.3 (/usr/bin/python3) *******End LYX version********** *******Linux (Ubuntu) version******** # System Details Report --- ## Report details - **Date generated:** 2025-11-28 15:53:11 ## Hardware Information: - **Hardware Model:** ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. To make the crash happen: 1) Right below the four question marks (????) click on the “insert→ display equation” box that is already there. 2) Click before…..I really mean before…...the boxed equation that is up two lines. 3) Try to copy the boxed equation by: a) Press the shift key, b) press the right arrow key. Now the entire boxed equation should be highlighted with the cursor at the end of the line, and the cursor is still blinking. 4) Press cnt-c for copy. Note the cursor will stop blinking (may or may not be visible, depending upon when you hit cnt-c), and the system freezes. This is the crash. 5) Wait long enough and the OS (linux) will ask you if you want to kill lyx or wait. If you wait about 60-75 sec, LYX (or maybe linux) recognizes it froze and asks you some question I do not recall….only waited long enough once. I have not redefined any key shortcuts. All keystrokes are as LYX was installed. I am happy to provide any additional info you need. Personal note. For the record I love LYX. A few years ago I used it to (self-)publish a 350 page book that I actually printed a few copies of. LYX worked mint and the printed copy was beautiful. Currently, I am using LYX to record my progress on a physics research problem that I am doing. The first volume of the books is 402 pages, the second (current) volume is 72 pages. The PDF compile time got long enough that I decided to split it into two volumes. A big thank you to all the developers who make LYX such a great package. Doran S. Smith [email protected] PS: I signed up for your mailing list so I could use your bug reporter. But the bug reporter will not let me sign in. Perhaps it takes several hours for the bug reporter to catch up to the newsletter? I did not want to wait to give you details on the crash report you received.
