Thanks for your very high quality bug report with details.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to make a minimal example. I know it
takes time to do that cutting down.

This version info is very useful. The 2.4.0~RC3 means that you're not
actually using an official released LyX version. Which linux
distribution do you use? Did you install LyX using your package manager
or did you install directly (e.g., by compiling) yourself?

This version is old and there have been a lot of fixes since then.

I can reproduce, thanks to your helpful recipe. This is a nasty bug
since it is about memory consumption. At least on my system, it keeps
eating up memory until I kill LyX.

The good news: the bug was already fixed, both in 2.4.x (which is our
latest stable code) and in the development code which will soon become
2.5.0.

Very interesting to know! Thanks for sharing. We look forward to your
future bug reports. Especially since it seems you're working with long
documents that involve math, your testing is important. Let us know if
anything seems to be slow on LyX side (nothing we can do about the long
LaTeX compilation though).

Best,
Scott
