I am so sorry to have wasted your time. I had no idea I was not using
an official released version.
As Scott said, it's not a big deal. It could well have been that the bug
had not been fixed. We do appreciate all bug reports.
We have also had other people recently mention that Ubuntu LTS is still
on 2.4.0~RC3. I do not know why they do that. I understand the desire
for stability, but really. They could at least update the minor
versions: e.g., 2.4.1, 2.4.2, etc, and not update to 2.5.0.
If you have any trouble compiling, let us know, and we can help. The
trick is to get the dependencies installed. I think you can do that with
"sudo apt-get build-dep lyx". The good news is that, once you have done
this, you don't have to do it again, so building new versions is easy.
