Someone recommended a laser printer and said they are cheaper to run than inkjets. I haven't bought a printer for ages so I'm completely out of touch. So forgive me if this question is dumb, but is this claim based on the price of the official brand-name cartridges or does it take into account the ridiculously low prices you can get at places like inkraider.co.uk (1.50-2 instead of 15-20 for the official versions).
Lasers are still cheaper (you can get budget toner refills too) and lasers are also much faster at producing multiple copies. The other big saving is on paper. Ink-jets need expensive, coated paper for high quality output (otherwise the ink soaks in and spreads) and without special ink aren't waterproof. Lasers don't much care about paper quality.
