Stuart,

This most likely won't go due to size constraints, but here is a screenshot of some of the metadata from Aperture, showing the file size to be 402kb  I'll send this then another with the print made from this file, it is leaning on my chair, completely covering it, which is a recliner with a high back.  I have dozens of photos just like this for our party, so a 402kb photo printed 36" wide and 60" tall.

Stuart,

I have been reading this thread. As a designer of 20 years and working in Photoshop for 16 years at least once a week someone sends me a 72dpi photo/image that is 3"x5" and wants to make it bill board size. It has never worked in all my years.

My soapbox preach is. . . always shoot (camera), work (illustrator, freehand, photoshop) in hi-res. You can click a button to "save as" and res it down and once the pixels are gone there is no magic to bring them back again.

The way a college professor explained it to our class (many years ago) and showed us, was he took a photo that was 3" x 5" and shrunk it 1.5" x 2.5" and then blew it up to 11" x 17". It didn't work. I always remembered that.

Many of them were emailed and they hadn't been scanned at a high resolution, or their email didn't send at a large size but I have printed out many of them that were a few hundred k to maybe a meg or so.  I am printing 36 inch by 60 inch prints to hang all over the walls, and they are crystal clear, it's amazing.  I use an HP Designjet and somehow this thing takes these small files and blows them into these huge prints with unbelievable clarity.

I was hoping to enlarge one to nearly poster size, but am thinking it will pixelate and look awful. Are there any tricks to bump up the resolution on photos like these? Or, was this just a lesson learned?  : (
