In the 'ole days, AppleTalk did quite a bit of chattering, as part of its continual search for nodes to talk to. But as I recall, Apple fixed that back during the early System 7 days. With more than a dozen OS 8/9/X AppleTalk hosts, on a 10-base network, I've never seen that "reconfig" traffic hit more than 2% (bandwidth) usage for about 30 seconds. And that was only when a host was misconfigured.
