Did you try erasing the touchy partition with Disk Utility?

Did you try siccing Disk Warrior on it to see what handy diagnostic messages it might provide?

I've got an issue I've never seen before. I have an external USB/FW drive that originally had 3 partitions on it, all of which correctly mounted on the desktop. I used Drive Genius to resize partition 3 down by 20 GB and then created partition 4 in the save space.

Once this was complete . . .only partitions 1, 3, and 4 are visible in Finder. All 4 are visible in Disk Utility and Drive Genius and I can successfully open partition 2 by using Go to Folder and putting in /volumes/partition2. At that point . . .partition 2 shows in Finder but with a grayed out icon.

I've repaired the partition (no errors) and rebooted a couple of times to see what might be the issue.

The drive itself is formatted GUID, all 4 partitions are Mac OS X Extended and 3 of the 4 have journaling enabled (including the one that is invisible).

I've checked the volume name for a leading period . . .at this point I'm running out of ideas. Anything I'm missing before I just try erasing the partition?
