Haven't tried erasing it yet . . .if I can't get it fixed I can do that though 
. . .which should fix the problem but I was hoping there was a simpler answer. 
It's an emergency boot volume and I hate to waste an hour reinstalling the OS 
on it unless I have to.

I don't have a current copy of DW . . .the last copy i have is 3 or so years 
old . . .but Disk Utility, Drive Genius and TechTool Pro 5 are all happy.

The only thing that appears amiss is that it doesn't show up in Finder windows 
until I use the Go to Folder option and then it shows up as grayed out instead 
of normally.
