I want to get rid of the machines. Not add an extra one :-)

Is there any technical reason why I'd need an MFD ?
Can't a software interpret the fax data fed to it directly from the landline 
and convert it to tiff or whatever without it going through the fax machine ?

Isn't there a way to get the driver from an old backup ? I'm just asking in 
case somebody know. I'll be checking that on the web right away.
