I suppose I have, though not in such an organized fashion. =)  It often
works, but depending on how the program is misbehaving, sometimes I
can't get it to work.  Either the application menu won't respond, or
force quitting leaves things in an unstable state, or whatever.

But yes, sometimes I can successfully recover from screwing things up. 
It's just the times when I can't that I'm reminded how awkward the 2-app
arrangement is (and that I'm eager to leap to OS X).
