You know, I totally forgot about that checkbox. He's right, unchecking that
box gives you the nasty delay.
I still want that script for battery level, though, lol.

Subject: Re: Delay Before Time and Date Spoken Using right-option-t Keys

Hi guys!
I have heard of sometimes check boxes can become unchecked so I was
wondering if those of you having this delay has the [use allow VO to be
controlled with apple scripts ] has been unchecked somehow!
I have no delay here using Mountain Lion!
Might be worth a check!

the key combo in a long time. Subsequent presses are much more responsive.

menus (vo-h) or by setting up a keyboard or trackpad commander to do it.

VO + a to read from the cursor. For example to read an article on Wikipedia
is no fun. It takes ages. For me there's to much delay after full stops and
commas and when a link is announced. Also the info how many objects a header
on a web page has takes to much time for me. At least on my german OS VO
announces the objects in a header followed by a very long pause. Yes, I know
of the Reader. But it's also annoying to hear again and again "clickable" at
the end of a line.

often use the keyboard commander VoiceOVer scripts for this reason, such as
opt+B for battery, opt+M for Mail, etc. With each of these commands there
is a lengthy delay that doesn't make the command practical to use much.
Once it is loaded into memory, it then works fine. As for the voice, I use
Fred on a regular basis, and still find this delay even though the voice
used for the script is the same one that VoiceOver uses at other times.
