This message indicates that the scripts you're using are not up-to-date.
With the introduction of madwifi-ng and its VAP feature, some changes in
regard to changing the operation mode have been introduced (see:
[wiki:UserDocs/ChangingMode]). In addition, the script does not abort its
operation when one of the steps fail - this results in unpredictable
results.
However, I fear this won't help you with the package loss.
