i remember when folks were complaining to MAPS that AOL was bouncing inbound e-mail with an SMTP error code showing a MAPS.VIX.COM URL.

i remember replying that AOL was free to bounce whatever they wanted for whatever reason they chose, and coined "their network, their rules."

i don't believe i would have said this (or felt it) if the evidence for MAPS's reputation reports to AOL was not online and available.

i'm immensely saddened by google's "star chamber" gatekeeping of my friends and family and mailing list subscribers among billions of other mailboxes whose owners cannot be informed enough to have given informed consent for this.

if we had run MAPS that way back in the day we'd've had zero friends, including, noone who is defending google's behaviour on this thread.

i've avoided replying to most of this thread since i want to show learning behaviour and unless i could surprise someone with a nuanced and evolved view, i figure to save you all the effort of ignoring it.

but i am reading and learning.
