If you go to the two links you provide they suggest that you go to the
GISDATADEPOT.com "All USGS 1:24,000-Scale (7.5-minute) Digital Elevation
Model data in the Spatial Data Transfer Standard (SDTS) format are now
available at no cost via ftp downloads from the GeoComm International
Corporation (http://www.gisdatadepot.com/dem/)". The SDTS data was
available for fast download from the USGS site a few weeks ago. I have no
problem purchasing data either from GISDATADEPO or USGS. Purchasing all of
the data for a state was very inexpensive from GISDATADEPO. However, saying
that the data is available for free download and then slowing the download
speeds to a crawl is bogus. Did USGS stop providing the downloads because
GISDATADEPO was going to provide the same free download service?
The other problem is the format of the "New" SDTS data and no converters
available to put this data back to DEM format. EPA has models that need
data in DEM format and not SDTS. I've purchased data from GISDATADEPOT and
it's useless until I can get it back to DEM. There is no mention of this
new data format GISDATDEPOT web site and that the STDS converters won't work
with the data. I did know that the data has been fixed for the positional
problems and was the latest and best data. I now have to order DEM data in
DEM format directly from USGS (you gave the link). Again I have no problem
with this, but I now wait a few days until the data is available from EROS.
