David makes a good point about the 2000 election and Florida. I would just add a couple of things: First, it wasn't just Cuban Americans who played a role in that stolen election. There was also the famous "Brooks Brothers riot <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks_Brothers_riot>". This riot was by a layer of white Republican staffers aimed at intimidating and disrupting the vote count. David points out that the unions did nothing. Jane McAlevey was an AFL-CIO functionary at that time. She was down in Florida representing the AFL-CIO. She recounts that riot and the proposals some were making for the AFL-CIO to organize a counter-protest to the Brooks Brothers Riot. In her memoir she recounts what her bosses told her: "*The Gore campaign has made the decision that this is not the image they want. They don’t want to protest. They don’t want to rock the boat. They don’t want to seem like they don’t have faith in the legal system…” *This was the message she got from her bosses. It makes clear that the union leadership was simply following the marching orders of the Democrats. As for McAlevey, good little bureaucrat that she was, she dutifully carried out their orders and said and did nothing. By the way, the lead lawyer for Republicans' legal challenge against recounting the vote was a guy named John Roberts. Some people may have heard of him more recently.
