Sergio Feria commented on MH-8695:
----------------------------------
I agree with Jonathan when he says that the internals shouldn't be required for
daily use. Of course, if we were more consistent with terminology this
wouldn't be an issue to begin with. Having a link labeled as 'recordings' that
anyone with understanding of the system would say were actually workflow
instances, strays far from the course of simple understanding.
I agree that a user needs to know how a recording they schedule will be
processed, and that is a workflow, but I don't agree that that should be
described as "creating a workflow". Scheduling a recording should be described
as "applying a workflow to a recording" instead since a workflow is the
definition of the steps that will be applied to a recording, not the resulting
internal workflow instances. Am I in the minority in my understanding of those
terms? Either way, I think we agree that someone who schedules recordings
should understand what processing is going to be done.
User documentation should clearly state something along the lines of "A
workflow is a series of jobs that are applied to a media package which
represents a recorded event" or something more descriptive, and have the ui
reflect that clearer terminology. Is some such clear description in the user
docs somewhere? 'Recordings' and 'episodes' hold as nearly synonymous to me.
If we are trying to convey one step in the processing of a recording we should
use a term more indicative of a step. Jobs, tasks, processing steps...
All that said, Judy's suggested changes wouldn't be that difficult to implement
as long as we've decided on terminology.
