I do not appreciate it. I find it dismissive and perhaps a bit insulting.
We cannot and should not assume this level of understanding. Why is this level
of understanding of matterhorn internals necessary for a person, perhaps a
student, assigned to schedule and monitor the recordings, excuse me...workflows.
Furthermore, Hank, I reject your statement that not understanding what the term
"workflow" means is a recipe for disaster. Here at Berkeley we have multiple
people responsible for different parts of deploying and using matterhorn. I am
responsible for the system administration portion. That is I install it,
maintain the machines it runs on, and make sure that those machines are
healthy. We also have people who are responsible for scheduling recordings
(workflows) and monitoring to make sure that those recordings (workflows) occur
successfully. Finally we have in house developers who are responsible for,
among other things, designing and updating the workflow (I guess)
configurations that instruct matterhorn on what to do when a recording
(workflow) comes in.
Why exactly should the first two groups need any in depth knowledge on
matterhorn internals in order to perform their jobs? Particularly, the parts
of their job that involve clicking around in the admin UI. I applaud you if
you have this level of understanding about the internals of every piece of
software install and use, but frankly I'd argue that most people do not nor
should they.
