If you want to store your files on a NAS you have to mount a directory over
smb or nfs.

It depends on the NAS System.

If you can use both try NFS it's faster.

The database should stay on the virtual host. I think you don't need a
extra host as database server. Maybe later, but you can migrate the
database.

To compile the virtualbox extensions you need to install a Xwindows IIRC.
