"You personally having trouble isn't the same thing as a brand being
"known to be nothing but trouble." Sony's tend to be one of the more
reliable MD portables.

Sorry, but if we're supposed to be here to help each other out, let's be
objective about it."

ME AND CONSUMER REPORTS!! While Sony's VCRs received very high ratings for
picture quality and other specs, Consumer reports readers pole ranked Sony at
the bottom for reliability.

So I am being objective. Since the number of MD recorders sold is such a
small fraction compared to other electronic components, it is hard to gauge
their reliability patterns. All I know is that there was a time where the
number of Sharp 701/2s were failing within 6 months or so at such a high rate
(more then 20%) that you would be foolish to buy one.

Have you ever had to send something back for repair?? The waiting time
varies from about 3 to 5 weeks to months. Let's say with travel time, that
the average repair takes one month to get back to you.

What are you supposed to do for that month. Especially is the particular
unit happens to be something that you depend on and need to use almost every
day?
