So if, as you say, it's hard to gauge the reliability patterns of MD
portables, how can you claim that Sony's are "known to be nothing but
trouble"? By your own admission that is patently unsubstantiable.
CR's "consumer polls" are not the most reliable sort of information
because of their self-selecting bias. If you look around the MiniDisc
newsgroups and web pages, you don't see a lot of problems with Sony MD
portables. And when you ask retailers about the reliability of Sony
portables, you usually get a positive response.

None of us is disputing that sending a portable back for repair sucks.
But to say that Sony portables "are known to be nothing but trouble"
without anything to back it up is not doing a service to anyone. That's
all.
