I can tell you what I'm basing it on. Working closely with service centres
catering to various brands, I can safely say that Consumer Reports don't
know what they're talking about. I recall many moons ago in a consumer
magazine about TV's and they mentioned a Sony model which was claimed to be
stereo, but had a mono amplifier in it. Now having experience with that
model, I knew that the damn thing was stereo through and through otherwise,
it would not have been stated in the specs!!

Magazines consist of a bunch of journalists and their opinions. They have no
dealings with the technical aspect as they would like the reader to think,
they are not even QUALIFIED to discuss technical terms, so why the hell do
they? Simple, because people like you fall sucker to their claims at the
drop of a hat.

If you want honest, reliable opinions, ask the next serviceman you come
across, and don't look at how many of one product gets repaired compared to
another, get percentages. I've been told by a lot of people in the US (thru
this list) that Sony car decks have had the worst history of problems, but
having asked a few people involved in sales as well, it can be found that a
lot of Sony decks are sold compared to other brands and so the percentage of
failures is not all that big despite the quantity.

So speak with service agents, and speak with sales staff (the ones who do
know their stuff, not that zit-faced 16 year old who expresses a little
enthusiasm but no experience). Magazines don't mean shit.

Adios,
LarZ

Either you have totally miss read what I said or I made a typo. I don't not
say
Sony portable MD players. As a matter of fact I specifically stated that I
had
not heard of much trouble with Sony portable MD units.

I was speaking about the general reliability of Sony products.

I don't understand your statements about Consumer Reports. That is just
your
opinion. And what are you basing it on?
