Craig,
M is not what i'd call hot, it's actually in the sweet temp zone if it's stable
and not swinging all over the place. It sounds like you have things back to
normal again, so all is well....
To check the cam timing is correct, accurately bring the crank up to TDC on #1.
Remove the rocker cover and check that the "V" notch in the cam sprocket lines
up with indent on the thrust plate. I can send you a pic if you are unclear
about this procedure.
