Geoff Portman bought my first 1600 from me in about '78.
He was not so well known then (he became a legend later). While inspecting
the car he asked if he could take it for a drive.. I thought i was an ok
driver up to that point and reluctantly I let him drive... It was the
fastest I have ever been in any 1600 and he scared me witless. In fact i
hadn't realised my car could go that fast and after the test drive i really
didn't want to part with it. I did tho hehe
He went on to become an absolute legend IMHO and was probably responsible
for the rule changes which ended the 1600's days in top line rallying
cheers
Mick
